Hello Steve, does 43 yrs old count as younger, i have recently been diagnosed with light chain MGUS although i’m suspicious i had it when i was 38 yrs. it took my drs nearly 2yrs of constant blood tests i had (3 HIV tests in 18 months all clear by the way) to decide there was something wrong and i needed to see a specialist. i have been under a specialist over a year and he refused to say what was wrong kept saying there was something wrong with white blood cells it took me a year and 3 appointments to finally discover what the name was and i had to say it to the dr . Do i have light chain MGUS. they don’t like to admit it i reckon its cause i’m on the young side and a female it messes with there figures, graphs, stats etc. I’m kinda pissed i had to tell the specialist the name of my disease before he’d admit it he said we don’t like to label it because its a pre-cancerous condition but not cancer and it unintentionally scares people. i actually left the room feeling elated because i thought i was going mad i had a huge smile on my face for the rest of the day. but now it’s hit home i’m 43 in 40 yrs time i have 40% chance of getting multiple myeloma and for the record i’m extremely unlucky so i really don’t fancy my chances but i put on a brave face and try not to think about it. Well that’s my story, sorry i can’t be very helpful thanks for reading me chelle 😉
