I was diagnosed with smouldering myeloma 2 years ago, having broken my back following a fall. At this time I am having blood tests every three months. My blood had actually improved a little after my last fall. I was just wondering whether my back pain will ever totally go. Is it a constant symptom of this condition. I have found it really helpful and reassuring reading all your posts.
Much love Nicky
Hi Nicky,
God has blessed my treatment and my back pain has improved. My Haematologist contacted me and advised that a recent skeletal survey is showing that the vertebrae fractures have healed. This does not always happen with Myeloma fractures, but he said that my good period of remission following my stem cell transplant has allowed the bone building osteoblasts to be reactivated. The only pain I experience now are related to my back muscles dealing with my spine curvature ( as one of the vertebrae is wedge shaped and has lost 70% of its height at the front. He advised that I can resume golf and cycling, which I have done over the last few days successfully.
Hang in there – a few months ago I thought I would have bone pain forever, be susceptible to other fractures and not be able to play my sports ever again, but God had different ideas.
