Tool push-off, workpiece bending, and thermal size drift routinely destroy tight tolerances during the turning of slender medium-carbon steel drive shafts. HRCCNC controls deflection and thermal springback in quenched and tempered 45# medium-carbon steel drive shafts by utilizing double-center tailstock support and CBN-coated turning tools. The HRCCNC turning department manages finish cutting depth within 0.1 mm and allows shafts to cool to room temperature before final pass execution and unloading.

These process controls maintain Ø12 and Ø16 shaft diameter tolerances within ±0.004 mm, hold step concentricity to ≤0.003 mm, and yield a Ra 0.4 μ”m” roughness on bearing journals. HRCCNC finishes the drive shafts with black oxide treatment and anti-rust oil application. Metrology technicians inspect finished features using micrometers, runout testers, thread go/no-go gauges, and height calipers.
