hi all I had my treatment in the beginning of March at Southampton general ,chemotherapy, and stem cell replacement ,( my own stem cells ) after a 3 week stay in hospital ,which I must say was difficult but staff were excellent, still on numerous drugs taste buds nearly back to normal ,still get tired ,appetite is getting a lot better ,oncology this week ,they said last month that I will have to continue taking chemo tablets if I wanted to,? ,I suppose I will be given a date for the dreaded bone marrow biopsy, but I know I have to have ,neck and legs ache a bit ,apart from that I seem to be ok ,I don’t suppose they will know much until I have the biopsy, although I’ve been having blood tests once a month ,a week before oncology,I’ve tried to get on with things ,like going down the allotment which I love ,I struggled at first ,but find its getting easier,a,nd don’t get quite as tired now ,I think you must try to get back to normal as quick as you can ,no good lazing around ,feeling sorry for your self ,I got to bed normally before 8 pm and sleep most of the night until 6-30 ish ,when I get up and take the dog out to the paper shop every day,and then after breakfast ,between 3-5 hrs down the allotment ,planting and weeding etc,I have a can of Budweiser most nights ,but don’t really drink that much ,I just try to carry on like normal ,I always seem to be doing something ,going away in a couple of weeks time in our touring caravan for a week ,but not going to far ,not that I have a problem driving ,can manage 100 miles no problem ,oh well let’s hope things continue to get better ,onwards and upwards ,as I say

Hi Alan, glad to hear everything is progressing nicely and hope your 100 day test goes well for you. Sounds like you are keeping active and I think that’s the answer to a speedy recovery. After 6 months I felt I was back to normal fitness etc tho my bloods really took a very long time to look Ok. Be careful of a mental “dip” which seemed to hit me at say 6 months and I think it was because I resumed life/work as tho none of this had happened but whilst still thinking about it a lot – the transition from focusing on ending treatment and starting a new phase and mind game of “wait and watch”. As time goes by it does all get easier or, I guess, it becomes the norm and you get used to this 3rd wheel in your life. Enjoy and take care. Sounds like you have the option to have maintenance treatment or not – I wasn’t eligible but am happy to say I wouldn’t swap my 18 months with no treatment/drugs. Drug free is great. Enjoy

    Rebecca
