My auntie was told on Tuesday that’s she’s in remission now consultant at King has put stem cell treatment on hold because of elevated light chains can anyone advise why this would be does it mean she not in remission etc feeling really confused .
Hi
You need to ask for the light chain ratio. Unfortunately if it is out of normal range it would indicate that your aunt has relapsed. The light chains as well as the paraprotein are both measures of the myeloma activity. The consultants like to have both in the normal range before transplant.
Thanks for the reply it’s so hard to make sense of it all so is it likely to mean more chemo of can it be where the light chains have deposited around the body x
Unfortunately it may mean more chemo to get them back into a normal ratio. Light chains can clog up kidneys so make sure auntie is drinking plenty of water…..2 to 3 litres I was told.
Yes absolutely endorse what carol, was saying, drink plenty of water and other drinks to keep the kidneys flushed. The light chains can cause problems with the kidneys so it’s importsnt to drink lots.
