    Hello all
Since being diagnosed in August 2011 with MM I have sat and looked at the various benefits that we(my wife and I) might be entitled to and still not made a move.I think its due to me thinking my illness does not affect me enough….I am I the only one who thinks/thought this?? Anyone got any thoughts or tips as I think I need some advice from you guys..
    thanks Paul

Hi Paul I am sure you arent the only one to delay filling in those forms. I was like it too at first My advice is to get a Macmillan benefits advisor to help check your entitlement and fill in the forms with you If Macmillan arent avaialable try the hospital social worker Good luck love Bridget x

Hi Paul some hospitals have Macmillan advice centres based there pop in and see them If not ask your specialist nurse to refer you to Macmillan for help with benefits Someone will come and see you at home and go through it all with you . I think your GP could also refer you . Let us know how you get on . You will get backdated payments too which is handy ,I think its backdated for 3 months Love Bridget

    Hi Paul

IT took me a long time to get Slim to claim benefits, his thinking, was he was retired.he would not get anything.
All though it was costing us a lot of money on petrol, parking, and general things that I would not normally buy,all his clothes were to big for him, plus lots of extra washing, not to mention the carpet that was ruined.

I would urge any body retired or not to claim the money, that is there entitlement,I found out the other day I could get a separate allowance,Slim gets attendance allowance, but he can nominate someone for carers allowance.
He has worked all his life and served his country for 22 years, never had one penny off the state, now at the age of 67,he might not have many years to collect his pension which he has paid into for 50 years.
So yes you should get what you are entitled too.Eve

    Hi Eve
Thanks for the post-I have just been entitled to ESA which is helpful.I have applied for others so we will see.I to have never claimed and always find myself saying i,ll manage. But I now tend to agree that I am entitled to claim where able.Hope you and Slim well and thank you for the support.
    cheers Paul
