I wondered if anybody else was or has experienced problems with their ears. Mine have been constantly crackling and popping for the last 8 weeks and it is driving me insane. I dont have any hearing loss and my GP (with whom my consultant agrees) thinks its catarrh behind the ear drum following a cold but I think it may be a side effect of the one of the drugs but it cant be velcade because it started before I went on velcade so maybe the dex or CTD?

Any ideas to help would be most appreciated.

    Hi Wendy,

I've had tinnitus for many years, a throwback to the nerve deafness I picked up from 14 years as a miner. I can get it quite bad, usually when I am very tired or run down although, for the most part, I can block it out and send it into the background where it becomes an almost non-existent irritant.

Saying that I have noticed it coming stronger when I am on treatment – during my CDT, SCT and now with Velcade, accompanied with your crackling and popping for good measure… white noise with occasional drum rolls and high-hat cymbal crashes.:-/

Its not pleasant and it is not funny… but like everything else that isn't actually physical pain, you do eventually find coping mechanisms to push it back, if not exactly completely block it out.

I hope this state of blissful ignorance starts for you soon. 🙂

    Dai.

    Hi Wendy

I too have suffered from some ear problems since being on CTD. I've had several occasions where my ears all of a sudden feel like they are full of water and there is a whooshing sound in them. It can last on and off for 2 or 3 days at a time and is VERY annoying. I haven't had any colds and have never had this before so can only put it down to another side effect of treatment.

well at least its not just me, I have an appointment with an ENT specialist on Wednesday and shall see what they can do, however I have a feeling it will be nothing so will just have to try and enter a state of blissful ignorance as Dai does.
