Second night in Hammersmith hospital…etoposide didn’t start till 4:30pm so will have a disturbed night as new chemo has to be connected every 2 1/2 hours. Saline drip 24 hours so here till 1:30pm tomorrow at least. Anti nausea tablets and IV steroids seem to have kept nausea away so…..all OK at the moment. Start injections Friday and have been warned to expect pain in pelvis and sternum. Also told to expect hair to fall out…I was hoping o keep my hair till the mephalan….oh well! Staying strong and optimistic.

    Hi Caroline, Carol,

Your both moving on, I suppose you can’t really stop it even if you wanted to but it will be over soon enough. Not long to the new year and a new start. – PMA

    Hi Richard
Harvesting now completed. It started on Wednesday and ended today. I know sometimes it can take 3 this long and Graham was quite happy with this as obviously he wants to make sure they have enough for 2 transplants. Like you say there is no pain so everyone can be reassured that if my hospital phobic husband can go through this and have it 3 days running and visit the hospital every day this week then there is not much to it. Now and again he had difficulty trying to scratch his face and that’s about the only problem he had and not much of a price to pay for the ability to be able to prolong his life. He is now on a bit of a high and we are out celebrating tomorrow night with friends. Also his immunity is really good again which is brilliant news. His transplant will take place in 4-6 weeks and he is having breathing tests soon.
    Have a good weekend

Finally escaped from hospital at 9 o’clock last night as pharmacy delayed our departure. Just administered first growth hormone injection in my stomach..yuk!! Also have to take antibiotics for 14 days. Right now I am aching from top to toe -must be from all of the drugs and lying around in hospital….chemo, steroids, anti nausea both through IV and oral. No nausea today though so that’s a bonus, but my goodness I have never been so tired in all my life. 2 naps today almost 3 hours each and I am ready for bed now, even though I only woke up at 5:45 this afternoon! This treatment sure knocks you around!

    Hi Richard and everyone
My husband Graham finished his stem cell collection yesterday and told me he has had pain in his hips for the last couple of days. As well as MM he also has Gout. Today he has woken up and the pain is still there in his hips so he is back taking 6 Tramadol a day. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I wonder what happens to all the millions of stem cells that have been made in the past week as only a small proportion of them get collected?

    Hi Everyone
Today Graham had his echocardiogram, his pulmonary function tests and his monthly Zometa infusion. Just waiting for date to go in now but going to enjoy Christmas first. Although he had a lot of pain in his hips and back on Saturday and Sunday this eased off and he is back to working half days this week.

    Hi Carol,

Good news about the stemcellharvest, lets hope you have enough. Just the SCT to go now and then the long road to recovery for all of us. I have my date for going in, that’s 10 Jan. The week before it’s a trip to the dentist, an ENT specialist, lung and heart checks. Already received the container for urine test and a stool test as well so Christmas will be a bit busier than I hoped. Anyway, I do hope you have a good Chrimbo and at least that’s another milestone out of the way.

    Hi Richard
Hope you have a lovely Christmas day with your family. Grhaham now has a date for consent for transplant which is 14th January so you will already be in having yours done by then. We will presumably get a date for his when we attend on 14th. We had a lovely Christmas day at our daughter’s house yesterday and we are partying tonight at a friend’s. Make the most of your time now before the transplant.
    Best wishes, Angela and Graham

Hi Ang, all moving along nicely with graham then. I’m sure the SCT won’t be longer after the consent. I’m dreading coming back home after because my wife has already got plans to put me in quarentine. Our daughter will also bring back various forms of mutant strains of bacteria and viruses from school that I will have to be wary of but I’m sure we’ll manage. Well, have a good new year and lets hope next year is better than this one.

Hi Richard, It’s a pity you don’t live nearer. We could put you in quarantine together and do shifts between us to look after you both. 🙂 I am sure we will all have a better year – it surely can’t be any worse!
