I’m a 31 year old male. Long story short about 3 weeks ago my doc ran some regular test results (which was done for the first time in my life), after my liver test results came out he said all was normal and that’s that. But the anxious person I am I insisted on getting the results from him and it all showed normal besides my globulin which was 36. (refrence high was 35), in which I googled and found it could be raised due to multiple myeloma.
Anyway after about 5 days just being super anxious (that’s just the person I am) am), I started developing frequent urination which i thought could be uti but ran results and all was fine.. Then the next evening i started devolping back pain (upper back near the spine) which is mild but constantly there and worse when I’m bending down anyway the next couple of days the pain also went to my left elbow, left hip and left shin and it comes and goes, is this a normal symptom of myeloma like pain moving so quickly to other body parts so quick (also just to note I went to the. Chiro two days before the pain started, and I revisited him today and he said it’s muscle spasam which is compressing the spine and there is nothing wrong with me).. So me being worried i insisted with the doctors i run all blood tests neccassary (i read on google which all tests required to confirm myeloma).
Also would like to note after a couple of days my urination became so frequent that straight after urinating i would have the urge to urinate straight after that.. All the time.. Thats why i repeated my calcium just incase…
Anyway i ran two sets of blood.. The first one below is a two weeks ago and the other one was done couple of days ago…

Serum protein electrophoresis normal.
FREE LIGHT CHAINS, serum
> S-KAPPA FREE LIGHT CHAINS 18.60 mg/L 3.30 – 19.40
> S-LAMBDA FREE LIGHT CHAIN 15.90 mg/L 5.71 – 26.30
> KAPPA/LAMBDA RATIO 1.17 0.26 – 1.65
According to my physican/uriolgist all is normal slight protein in the urine could be because of the very high protein diet i have. Also i started gymming recently again after a months break so i dont know my bone pain could be releated to that or not…
Also should i be worried that my iga is high (my phsican said that my iga is very mildy elevated and it could be seasonal cause of sinusitis or inflamation in the gut, i do suffer with ibs but do not have celiac disease)
My kappa is just under above high average, i know they say the ratio is what matters, but wat i would like to know is could it be on the high side because of my iga being high.. Are these two releated in some way??
Also could it be possible that there is no mspike yet but it could come like maybe my iga might be going higher and higher, I’m not exactly sure how the mspike works?
Also my uroligist has put me on vesicare for frequent urination which has helped a lot so far. I’m also on azor for anxiety.
Sorry guys for the long long write up. Would love to hear from you guys wat yoou think. My physican and urlogist thinks I have gone mad..

Hi mark86
Trying to comprehend myeloma and the significance of test results is a baffling issue but, if you spend enough time on it, you can make sense of it all.
However, first of all self-diagnosis is not a good thing as it limits or directs your GP to make one specific investigation, when it could actually be something completely different. As an example I had kidney cancer in 2007 but I was originally referred to Gastroenterology as it was originally evidenced by a lump under the rib cage at the front. It turned out to be a ‘massive’ malignant kidney cyst. I was kept in the dark and didn’t realise the significance that at one stage I was at work with 8 litre bottles of water on my desk. I didn’t tell anyone and they didn’t ask.
On that subject, considering the detail of the tests you’ve had, do you have your eGFR result ? Though my eGFR is okay for someone missing a kidney, it seems like a result that might be useful to know for you.
As regards myeloma, my results are out of range and generally speaking a result of FLC’s under 100 is considered insignificant, and I don’t mean that disparagingly. I am at the MGUS stage in spite of my out of range results and I am at the watchful waiting stage. Even if they increased significantly I still won’t be treated unless they show a continuing trend and/or reach pretty high levels.
Even at my levels I shouldn’t have symptoms so it’s a waiting game for me and I try not to let the results take over my life. The time before last they went down, so I didn’t ask about the last results and will get updated in October.
Your symptoms probably don’t relate to myeloma but I’d ask about your eGFR (estimated globular filtration rate – basically a figure denoting your kidney efficiency) because kidney issues can give you some funky back pains. My figure is usually about 60 which is fine for me, and if stable, is no reason for concern. A kidney stone is like having someone stick a red hot needle in your back and is shockingly bad, but a simple UT infection could be responsible.
I’m not qualified to give an opinion but myeloma doesn’t seem the most likely cause of your symptoms and I refuse to worry about my MGUS until I have good cause to.
