Hello all
Myeloma UK has become aware that some AL amyloidosis patients may have been prevented from receiving critical insurance cover – an insurance policy which means that if you are diagnosed with a life-threatening or life-limiting condition, you will receive a lump sum pay-out to cover your mortgage payments. The patients have been prevented from receiving the cover as AL amyloidosis is a rare condition and is not covered under any of the lists of conditions the insurance companies would agree to fund.
We have been in contact with relevant insurance companies and the health minister Norman Lamb about this issue. We are therefore keen to see if this is a wider problem or if it is only confined to a few individual cases.
Please can you post on the discussion forum or contact my colleague Kate by calling 0131 557 3332 or emailing kate.morgan@myeloma.org.uk if you have encountered this issue or anything similar (e.g. for other types of insurance such as private insurance or life insurance). We are keen to hear about your experience of the insurance companies, the type of insurance you had trouble with and whether or not the issue was resolved. Please note we are not looking for experiences of travel insurance.
Thank you in advance.
Ben
