Hi everyone, my dad is 74 and was recently diagnosed with MM. He has two plasmacytomas on his spine and has lost a good bit of his mobility. He’s had 5 sessions of radiotherapy. And has recently started a combination of velcade and Dex and will go onto lenalidomide during his second cycle. He’s still struggling to get back on his feet. Does anyone remember how long after starting treatment that they noticed a recovery in their mobility? His mental state is very low so think it would really help if he could get some mobility back.

His feet and legs are also really swollen. The doctors think it’s a combination of the dex and the fact he’s not eating a lot. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to sort the swollen legs/ feet or get some appetite back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We’re all a bit at a loss lately and hate seeing him in so much pain. Thanks in advance for any help.

Dex certainly gives you fluid retention. I would speak to his team again to see what they can do about that. I suggest you join the UK Myeloma support group Facebook page if you haven’t already done so as you will reach a much wider audience and thus a much wider breadth of experience. Good luck.

Thanks very much for your reply Paula. And also for the advice regarding the Facebook group. I’ll join and repost there too. Thanks again for coming back to me.
