Hello I am new to this site, my mum has myeloma, me and my dad were asked yesterday if they should do DNR if things did not go to plan which to be honest I did not see coming, but she is having dialysis so the next few days are crucial. I am the oldest so I k ow I have to be strong for my brother and sister, and I feel I have to be strong for my dad.

It's so painful to watch my mum is paranoid and is having hallucinations, yet only a week ago she was lucid how a week can change anything, I am just looking for some advice and words of encouragement to get me through the next week, because I know it's going to be tough. Thank you

    Hi Jules

Am sorry your Mum has MM 🙁

I hope your Mum gets through the dialysis and is soon on the road to recovery.
Stay strong and stay well and pray that the DNR is not needed.

Love and big hugs to you all

    Hi there,

Firstly so sorry to hear about your mum, and hoping that she is managing the dialysis. Obviously needing to get those kidneys functioning! It is a hard road but it is doable. This forum is a godsend and there is so much knowledgable support 🙂

    Ask away

    Hi Jules

This is all so much to take in.

When I was asked if I wanted resuscitation if needed, while I was in hospital, my immediate response was "no!" I did have a discussion with the Consultant who said, with Mm and all the bone involvement and other complications, even if resuscitation worked life would have no quality. I decide it would be better to slip into the beyond rather than live a wretched existence here.

I guess it is hard making that decision for someone else, but previously, when facing life threatening surgery I had told surgeon and my family I didn't want to be resuscitated.

Do sorry the family are having such a hard time. I do hope your mum either takes a real turn for the better, or gently slips away.

    Love.

    Mavis
