Hi all
Peter well done with your sct and keep doing but don't over do it…how the heck can you e at work one month ish on? You are super human! Me would be nagging you to slow down, bet mrs Peter is!
Helen, glad to hear that Gary has his cells back, what a great moment! And the thing with the cat, that must be so hard! Best to check but surely with lists of hand washing, cleaning regimes surfaces etc and perhaps keeping Gary away in terms of sitting with cat on lap that should be ok? Hope he is feeling as well as can be expected, and that you are bearing up too!
We still remember it all very well!

Hi Tom and Peter
Iv'e arranged for our son to look after our cat for a while.
Garry sickness got worse again throughout the day and has been put on a syringe driver for his sickness which is a 24hr one so we'll see how it works.
I made a mistake when I said he was on day 4 it's day 4 today his neuts are slowly coming down they are 3.13
We both had a bad day yesterday and today is another day so all being positive.
Regards
Helen
Hello Helen
Good name! I kept our cat at a distance for about 6 months, he was fed in the garage and I never touched him or his food dishes nor was he allowed to sit on the sofa I sat on- which we had cleaned before transplant- he still doesn't sit beside me very often, I think he was traumatised by the experience! He too is 13. I've had lots of infections but none caused by the cat. Just keep door knobs, taps, cupboard handles and switches well cleaned and everyone scrupulous with their hand washing, as well as clean towels and bedding etc – should be ok. Good luck with the next few days.
Love Helen
Hello Helen
Yes a good name!
Thanks for the comments – I think the grandchildren are looking forward to her staying now.
Just at the moment I'm visiting Garry and he logged onto the forum site, it has given him a boost.
His neuts are 1.3, the sickness has subsided but now has the trots again he negotiates his drip stand very well after unplugging it.
Our son Mark has developed a cold so cannot visit him and Louise lives in Manchester but we all have iPads so we FaceTime each other at any time this helps us feel closer.
Thank you Peter,Tom,vicki,Colin &Helen for your reassuring words
love
Helen
Hi Helen and Garry
Your both welcome, the sickness and trots was with me for a couple of months post SCT so not too much of a problem as long as you drink plenty Garry ???????????????????????? it will work out .
Stay well not be long now ????

Just thought I would update you on dad's progress. As you might imagine on day 6 dad is feeling quite poorly with sickness and diarrhea. He had a terrible night dashing to the loo (once he had unplugged and negotiated the drip to the bathroom). He's really struggling to eat but can manage a mouthful of custard every now and then. I spoke to him this morning on facetime (I'm in Manchester and he's in Hull) and reminded him about what Tom said about drinking plenty – he said he would do his best.
Unfortunately mum has caught my brother's cold and so can't visit but dad doesn't seem to mind. I plan on driving to Hull to visit tomorrow evening to take in some fresh clothes and custard. Fingers crossed he will feel a little bit better tomorrow.
Thanks for all your support. I know dad logs in occasionally and your comments really give him (and us) a boost.
Best,
Louise x
P.S. Dad's neuts were 0.425 yesterday so probably zero or close today
Hi Louise
I could tell you not to worry, but you will.its everything that everyone else has been through, make sure you take old clothes in,you just might want to through them away.Cold milk went down well with Slim,do not worry if dad does not eat,no use eating then being sick, things just do not have the same taste. They say a piece of pineapple sucked before eating helps with taste, but they are so tired, they just want to sleep so let him, take a good book to read they tend to like you there when they wake up,it is a very emotional time for them,I think men find this side harder.
Tell your mum to rest as much as possible,as when he comes home it is a bit harder, cleaning, cooking something they. Have asked for, then saying they do not feel like it,all part and parcel,it is very tiring takes a long time to get back on there feet, often with a few upsets,Slim ended back in hospital twice,Slims 9 months from SCT and still has not fully removed, mainly because of bone damage.hope this helps Eve
Hi Vicki & Colin
Super human , thanks , I like that , told wife , she collapsed in hysterical laughter !
I'm not super fast , more slow & steady , tortoise & hare job
Consultant calls me a tough old boot , wife just calls me, actually would never have got this far without her pushing me on
Reading lots of other posts I realise I have been very lucky with my rapid recovery from day one, determination is all !
Now waiting results of a blood test to see how good my remission is , will get this next week, if good news we are having a family celebration Easter Sunday
Mean while life virtually back to normal , resumed domestic duties & part time work
Just waiting for full sense of taste to return
Going to two day conference in York next week , being chauffeured no less.
All the best
Peter
Hi everyone,
Just an update on Garry's SCT
He's now on day 9 and is still on a syringe driver for sickness together with hydration and morphine for his stomach cramps although the doctors tell us he's doing well, it's difficult to understand that when he has now developed an infection and say that it was expected. They are taking him down for X-ray to check for signs of chest infection. He's quite shocked that he still has the trots as he has taken a few Imodium.
Louise and her family have arrived for a short visit and have been to visit Garry he now has 2 dvd's of Argo and 2 box set of Game of Thrones! As our son had the same choice – I don't think he's well enough to put the dvd's on yet.
We'll see what tomorrow brings
Love Helen & Family
Day 11 of dad's SCT journey! After a couple of ropey days :-S dad seems to be picking up a bit. He's still receiving a drip of potassium and anti sickness medication (via syringe driver) but he seems to be a bit more high-spirited. The doctor this morning told him that he has done really well and that they are very pleased with how things have gone and that he shouldn't be surprised if they say he can go home at the weekend! Dad said he won't hold his breath! I must admit I won't get too excited as it was only yesterday that dad had a blood transfusion because his blood counts weren't satisfactory. Nevertheless, it does give us light at the end of the tunnel.:-)
Best wishes to all.
Louise x
P.S. Will get a clearer idea this afternoon when we get his blood results back I suppose
Hi Louise
I know your dads doing great 😀 it looks lie he might beat me and get out in less than the 16 days I done, and every one thought that was Good.
Dont worry to much about your dad getting more blood I had one two days before i was let out 😀 and the Dr said that I could have been let out the day before.
Love to you all and tell your Dad I have fingers crossed for him to be home 🙂

Thanks for your encouraging message Tom. We've just heard that dad's neuts are 0.08!! It's given us all a huge lift. Isn't it strange how quickly things can change?
😀 xxx
Hi Louise,
I am glad to hear Garry(Dad)has turned the corner, it is a great feeling, isn't it?:-) I wouldn't worry too much about the blood transfusion delaying his return home. For Phil the important blood count for discharge from the hospital was the neutrophils, while he was in hospital he had a couple of platelet transfusions but once he came home he had to go back every four days to start with to have his levels checked and he had a few more platelet transfusions and his first and only blood transfusion on these trips to the hospital. All the counts need to be at a certain level before your Dad can go home but low levels of platelets and haemoglobin are normal, it takes a while for everything to recover.

Hello there – I haven't been on here for a while but as a cat owner I just wanted to say that when I came home from my SCT in September 2010 my cat Kiwi was a god send. As visitors were very restricted she was my only company most of the day and sat by my side throughout. I am still (fingers crossed) in remission and yes I get endless infections but its humans that give me problems – flippin pneumonia and endless chest infections. Hope all is going well and good luck for the future.
love Gilly xx
p.s. latest problem-I now apparently have a 'lung nodule' -anyone heard of that one ??
Hi Louise
Its not a problem, your dad will slowly feel better but dont expect it to be soon it will take a bit of Time even when he is out of Hospital.
Am with you all on this one.
Love Tom Onwards and upwards xx
