Hello Im new here and this is my first post. I am getting a bit concerned as everyone keeps telling me i have lost a lot of weight recently. I do think i have lost some weight for sure. Also i have recently started having terrible pain in my pelvis/hips and down my thighs. Both sides although one side is worse than the other. I was supposed to be monitored by my GP for 2 years as Haemotologist said i was low risk. I have to say my GP doesnt have a flippin clue about MGUS. GP said i could have the blood tests taken as part of my annual diabetes checks and i should just tell the nurse to do the extra tests. I have had 2 rounds of blood tests but the nurse doesnt really understand what screening she should be requesting. When i have gone back for my results with the GP the GP talks about my daibetes but never mentions the MGUS screening and I always have to explain what it is and ask for the results and she usully says yes everything seems fine. I am just not confident that 1) the correct tests have been done and 2) that she understands just how important it is. Anyway because of the GPS casual approach to MGUS i just didnt bother getting screened for a while. However now im scared to go because im worrying that the condition has progressed to Multiple Myeloma.
Are my symptoms mentioned above suggestive of progression or am i worrying about nothing? I just had my 6oth birthday so have been putting the pain down to possible arthritis. I dont know what to do. help!!

    Hi Sylvia
Your increased pelvis/hip pain is worrying and unintentional weight loss is never good so it is possible that your MGUS has progressed to myeloma. The tests you need, at least for now, are blood paraprotein level test and serum free light chain test. If these are normal, ask your GP to refer you to a specialist. They can arrange other tests such as CT and MRI to check if there is anything going on. Even if everything is normal, it would be great to know that the pain is not due to myeloma, don’t you think?
