    Hi everyone,
Haven't been on here for a while as was doing reasonably well after SCT last April, and beginning to feel more 'human'. Unfortunately my father died in March and I became quite sad( naturally) and then panicky and weepy. My GP put it down to stress related to my Dad's passing also stress of having to be TB tested as the Doc thought he might have had latent TB.
Anyway, things seemed to be under control with low dose anti-depressants, but then on my regular monthly hospital trip for my 'bone filler' (bisophosphonate) my creatinine levels started to go up. My Hospital staff became concerned and referred me back to GPs for blood sugar testing as thought I might be becoming pre-diabetic, but clever GP added in Thyroid Function test as an afterthought, and low and behold was told the next day that my Thyroid has ceased to function. I'm now on Throxine and increased the dose to 100 mcg daily, and due to see the hospital for treatment and review next week, and my consultant at the beginning of Sept. Needless to say I have stopped the anti-depressants as probably all the symptoms, including putting on weight when I didn't feel like eating, sleeplessness, were caused by the under active thyroid. I have since read that Thalidomide treatment can affect the Thyroid, also needed a partial thyoidectomy 28 years ago , so the thalidomide treatment may have been the final straw so to speak!
Has anyone else had similar effects as my Consultant has not seen anyone with this or am I just unusual? I
Haven't seen anything on the discussion forum similar which is why I'm throwing this out for thoughts. It also means that I will have to add another Consultant team to my portfolio!
    Thanks, Carol

    Hi Carol,
I've had to take thyroxine after being on Thal and Dex. Not a total cessation of the thyroid working, but it became sluggish. Dex is supposed to be a common culprit. Thyroid levels can generally be adjusted as long as you have tests fairly frequently.

    Good luck,
    Eva
