Hi
I have only posted on here once and wasn't sure where to put this.
I was wondering if any one could answer a question for me my husband finished his last cycle CTD on the 5th of Jan and had a chest infection that has been smouldering but kept at bay for the mo with antibotics.
I was wondering how long after finishing CTD you need to watch his temp and now he has finished his CTD. awaiting info for zometa infussion now but no one seems to explain anything and can't find the info anywhere.
Would appreciate your comment still trying to understand all this
Love Lisa xxxx
Hi Lisa,
Your husband will soon get used to judging his own temperature (i.e. he will feel it if his temperature starts rising) but it is sensible to take his temp a couple of times a day (mid-morning and mid-evening) especially if something like a chest infection is lingering.:-|
I check my temperature at least once a day as a ritual… more if I am feeling a little under the weather. I have been checking it twice/three times a day over the last week because I have felt hot and a little bit bothered but I was fine each time, it was just my body's reaction to having the central heating on for longer than usual because of the weather.:-)
You can download lots of information from the archives on the home page of this site… to ease your mind ring the number for Myeloma UK and speak to Ellen or one of her colleagues… if you are not sure exactly what you want or you don't feel confident about downloading they will help and will send you the relevant information by post.8-)
Please ask any question you want here too… it doesn't matter how silly or personal the question may seem, I assure you that most of us have been there, done that and used the T Shirt to mop up the mess.:-D
What is your husband's name? Where in the country are you?
Make yourself at home.8-)
Dai.
Hi
Thank you Dai his name is Mick we are we are in essex near Southend thank you it is useful he was only diagnosed in August when he was ill in hospital so still trying to take it all in what need to be done.
I have been checking temp everyday and he has been in a out with pneumonia all through CTD treatment and due to this and already having MS they have decided SCT isn't really a safe option for him but wasn't sure how long he will still be at high risk of infection after the chemo will have a look at the downloads thank you.
They have told him the paraprotien is down to 3.7 will contact you about the Zometa treatment he will have once a month. Suppose just worring a bit.

Hi Lisa and Mick
Sorry you had to join, but pull up that comfy chair and ask away, I had CDT in 2009 leading up to SCT Dec 09 and am now Drug Free, dont worry too much about not getting a SCT as we have people on here that cant do a SCT and are doing great without it 😎
Am afraid the chest thing is something we have all had to get used to, at one time i nearly carried my Thermometer about with me ha ha.
As Our Dai Says askk away nothing is too silly if you think it ask it.
Love to you Both, keep well and Good Luck in Mick's road to remission.

Thank you Tom for being supportive.
Quite alot to get your head round, We are ok about not having the SCT cos it isn't right for him, It is a litlle wierd cos they found the protien in blood and urine in July was diagnosed and on chemo by being of August a hospital stay as protien cause problem with his kidneys so all happened so fast and just went along with chemo and the infections along the way that now it seems to have calmed down now thats when I am coming up with all these questions.
Is now going to have immunaglobins and zometa every 4 weeks his paraprotien on the CTD went down to 3.8 but wouldn't go any lower will see the doc again in March fingers crossed it stays there.

Hi Lisa
My partner Colin has just had an sct. I am always checking him temperature, whether he wants to or not ha ha! 🙂 Colin tells me he knows wye he needs it done but like the others if something is hanging about like infection I'd take it at least once a day. With regard to acts there are some schools of thought to say they aren't necessary, so all is not lost.

Hi Lisa,
I have had a couple of infections following CTD, in both instances I had already begun to feel unwell – the temperature then confirmed this. My advice would be, as soon as the temperature rises above 38 you should contact your hospital. They will probably give antibiotics to get things back to normal.
With regard to Zometa the infusion now only takes 15 mins. I have had no side effects and take it once a month. It is intended to help protect the bones from any further MM damage.
Hope that this helps.
Tim
Thank you for all the information. Mick had his infusion of immuniglobins and zometa and the next day had a temp of 39.2 and call the hospital ended up at A and E again.
He now has a urine infection and has to have a 5 day cause of iv antibiotics. Can't wait for him to come out hopefully Tuesday.
Love

Lisa,
So sorry to hear that Mick has an infection, hopefully he will be back home with you on Tuesday. I know when my husband Phil was admitted to hospital in the summer with pneumonia I was very worried but the hospital soon got his temperature under control. I hope Mick feels better soon.

Hi
Thank you he seems to be responding very well. First urine infection he has had.
Thanks Tom yes he has been taking more fluids since being disgnosed, been in hospital more than being at home lately lol
