Hi all I’ve not been on for a while,  had so much going on outside of my personal circumstances.   Would really appreciate some feedback though. I was diagnosed Feb 2014 with smouldering myeloma.  I have experienced some deep pelvic pain on the odd occasion,  but since Friday have had severe pain in my back, along with hip and thigh pain in my bones, should I be worried.  It got so bad today I ended up with a walking stick.

Hi, so sorry to hear that you are in pain. I have smouldering mm and was diagnosed in Oct 13. I experience odd twinges of pain but I’m never sure if it’s myeloma or general aches and pains. My rule of thumb is that if the pain passes after a couple of days, I’ll try not to worry about it. If the pain persists for longer, and I have not done anything to cause myself an injury, then I would investigate by initially phoning the specialist nurse.x

I would certainly mention your pains and aches to your specialist. My myeloma was diagnosed in March 2010. For approximately 9 months prior to the diagnosis, I would experience some strange aches pains in my hip, under my rib cage, around my kidneys and in my back. The pains would come and go. I just thought that I had strained certain parts of my body due to lifting heavy boxes at work. For five months prior to diagnosis, I underwent various x rays and scans to try to detect the cause of the pain, but unfortunately three vertebra collapsed in February 2010 before a consultant recommended an MRI scan which eventually diagnosed the lesions in my bones caused by myeloma. At least with you being already identified as smouldering, your consultant will be able to carry out further tests to detect whether your myeloma is the cause of your aches and pains.

    Take care.

Thanks Jan.  I went to see my nurse about the pain in my hip and thigh, and also mentioned some shoulder pain which she felt was muscular. That was 4 wks ago, 2  wks ago saw my gp as shoulder was so painful. She prescribed anti inflammatory tablets and Co codomal.  Said if no better in a week steroid injections. I phoned myeloma nurse who said no to injections. Have been to clinic today to find my paraproteins are at 69? ?? And have a high mch?? Got to have a full skeletal survey and back to see the consultant in 3 wks,  I’m thinking this could be the beginning of treatment??

    Hello there,

I’m wondering how you’re feeling today? I have just joined this website and have been reading through a few stories. I recognise the pain you describe and wondered how you are now. and whether this was the beginning of your treatment.

    With Love
