We spent the holiday weekend at my sister's country pub and restaurant just south of Hereford. We drove across on Sunday afternoon in appalling weather, with rain and spray combining to give a forty yard visibility on the motorways. Janet drove as far as Tamworth services but I was forced to take over due to Janet struggling with the visibility… I got us there OK but I was dreading the stiffening up which was bound to follow. Even when fully fit I never enjoyed the first night in a strange bed and so it turned out… with some dreadful cramps that were only finally alleviated by setting myself up in a sitting position.:-(

But the food was excellent and my sister had provided a wonderful day of events and entertainments for families and adults alike and I surprised myself with my mobility and endurance. We retired to my sister's lounge for the concert which we watched and thoroughly enjoyed in full.

I decided to drive back as far as the Strensham services to get Janet onto the motorways in excellent driving conditions but once I got there, feeling good, I decided to plough on. We talked about everything under the moon and with the aid of a pair of excellent compression socks provided by our lead nurse, I got us home without a stop in two and a quarter hours (three and a half outwards).

It was good to get home but we had a very nice break and the next day found me in good health and physically very sound.:-)

I believe that the element of fear… the expectation of mobility and physical problems, was far worse that the reality… and we are planning a three day return visit in the near future where we can expect some quality time with my sister and her husband. 😎

I took my guitar and amp but decided to spend our time quietly and it was a good call… but the next time I intend to do a mid-week gig to pay for our hospitality.:-)

Overall we were very, very pleased with my progress and overall fitness… here's to more of the same.8-)

Lovely news Dai – so good to hear that you both have enjoyed the Jubilee weekend and what a way to remember it! It gives you such a lift to be almost normal again doesn't it. Positivity in action. Well done Dai and Janet.

    Kindest regards
