    Hi

My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 3 weeks ago while rushed to hospital with his emphysema struggling to breath and bad pains that he had for about 6 months  the GP said it was muscle pain and took no notice said it will go away in time , once in hospital they did a full scan which showed 3 cracked ribs and a crumbling spine , he started chemo he was allowed home after 1st chemo but is now back in hospital and   needs a drip most of the time for the kidneys and is now on full time oxygen for his lungs I really don’t know what his chances will be I can’t get to see the doctors very often as they do their rounds in the mornings before I can get there I am an hour away on the bus

So sorry to hear your husband is having such a bad time and it is so scary for you both. Early diagnosis is crucial but sadly many gp’s don’t know about myeloma as it is a rare cancer. My husband was diagnosed late in October 2012 after 7 months of back pain. He also had spinal compression but went on to have a SCT in May 2015 and was in remission for 18 months.

Speak to your husband’s specialist nurse to find out what treatment your husband will have. You can also phone the nurses on the myeloma site if you have any questions. I have always found them comforting and knowledgeable.

    What age is your husband?

Thinking of you at this difficult time.

    Hi Maureen,

Hopefully I can see one of his doctors soon I did contact a nurse on here who was very helpful,

He is 73 yrs old and not a big man so a bit worrying that he is losing weight, He started He has started VCD chemo and has his 3rd injection today (thurs)  which he has for 6 months .

Like most men he doesn’t ask questions so he don’t have much to tell me , the nurses on the ward are very helpful.

So pleased for you your husband is in remission, I too am in remission with NHL

    Thanks again

    Hi Shirl

unfortunately my husband has relapsed again and finding it difficult to find a treatment that works as each time he relapses the myeloma gets more aggressive. It is such an individual decease but he still has a few treatments left. Not happy with our consultant so asking to be referred to the specialist in Glasgow again.

I hope your husband will improve soon and take care of yourself too x

So happy to hear your husband is home from hospital. I hope he gets into remission with his treatment and doesn’t have too many side effects.

It’s a hard journey but doable.
