    Hi All,

Looking for some info on what’s the agenda and time scale for the next couple of months.

My wife, who is 47, has just finished 6xcycles of CDT, her paraprotein numbers have levelled off, so theyve stopped treatment for 6 weeks now, in that period she will see her consultant for a update on whats going to happen over the next couple of months.

We are based in Northampton and the hospital has been great, I know she will have to have her stem cell harvest at Leicester, then the transplant at Northampton.

Any info on how this happnes in regards to timescale, what happens when and where, how long will she be in hospital for the transplant will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Well Grega, glad you could join us. As for timescale, everyone is different but there is a form of timeline. I had my last chemo session end of October. started prep for Stemcell harvest on 1 Dec. with the injections to stimulate Stemcell production. Harvest was done 9 Dec and took about 3.5 hours. I have been told that the SCT will begin 4 weeks from then, heavy dose of Chemo followed 2 days later with the SCT. I still have to have heart lung and vital organ check before going in so am just waiting for a date. If you see my post ‘Buddies wanted’ in the Treatment categorie, there’s a few of us that are at the same stage, it will give you a pretty good idea of what happens.

    Hello Greg,

Richard is right, the timescale is different for everyone depending on where they are being treated, when beds are available, what the protocol is at each hospital, etc, etc. The consultant will be able to tell you more when you see them. My husband Phil finished his first line treatment towards the end of October 2012, he had his stem cells harvested at the start of December 2012 and then was admitted for his SCT on December 17th and got his cells back on the 20th. The length of stay in hospital is again dependant on the individual, Phil got a stomach bug while he was in hospital so his stay was 24 days but once he was home he stayed home and did not have to be admitted again. Other people only stay in a couple of weeks. If you are interested I updated a thread on this forum daily while Phil was having his transplant:

I remember the time between treatment ending and the harvesting process beginning being a strange limbo time as we were so used to going to the hospital so often for treatment and then suddenly there were no appointments to go to, strange but enjoyable :-).
