    Hi

I just joined via another forum, I recently been diagnosed with Myaloma. I’ve not even started treatment as of yet and only got out of hospital on Monday. 2 weeks in hospital multiple drips and 4 fractures to my back, which hasn’t totally healed. I’m coping with this on my own as last year I lost my mum. I would appreciate any help or support I can get as this has made me quite emotional.

Hello Keith. So sorry to hear your about your diagnosis and the position you are in. Facing this on your own can be a challenge however, all is not lost as there are groups out there to share your burden. If you need financial help, then apply for “Carers Allowance” as this none mean tested and is helpful if you need this.

Don’t be afraid to speak with the MacMillan Centre at your local hospital as they will update you on all the latest support that is out there. They were very good with me when I was first diagnosed some 11 years ago.

Kind regards and wishing you all the very best. Robert ❤️

I think finance will be a problem going forward. I was told I would get pip by the Myaloma Team. I already lost a lot of work due to my hospital stay. But I’m at the beginning of all of this. But it’s positive you been living with Myloma for 11 years, that’s encouraging.

Hi Keith and welcome to the forum.

Getting the diagnosis of myeloma has been pretty traumatic for many of us (me included). Yet it is possible to develop some kind of new normal.

I am reminded of Churchill’s speech “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat” (although I don’t think that the ‘toil’ part is applicable and the ‘blood’ part has a completely different meaning in our context).

Chemotherapy is tough, but patients get through it and routinely enjoy long periods of remission (my current status – I am off on holiday in a couple of days).

Sorry about your mum. My parents passed away some years ago, but I still had an instinct to run to them for comfort when I was diagnosed.

If you want to give your email address (warning: this forum attracts spammers), I would be happy to contact you one to one.

    Regards
    Rabbit
