    Hi Helen

Having been through exactly the same as you last February I really do sympathise – the treatment really does dry your skin out and the lines look as if they are there to stay. However, I can honestly tell you they will go away but you might have to work at it a bit.

I felt very frail in myself but I did try to eat as well as possible with a wide variety of foods including cheese, oil, red meat. eggs and fruit and veg. I gave up completely on alcohol but instead made sure I had things like fizzy water and melon to rehydrate the skin (lots of water). I also tried to keep active out in the fresh air – slowly at first and then buiding up. I think it really did help avoid infections in the early days and also made me feel so much better.
Regarding the hair I Know they tell you NOT to tint it so as soon as I had about an inch of hair I used one of those tints without amonia and chose a soft baby blond which didnΒ΄t look too harsh and seemed to look quite natural even on really short hair. I also put lots of conditioner on every single time I shampood my hair.
Regarding nails I only had the blue lines on my toes so I just covered them with a pretty nail varnish so I didnΒ΄t have to look at them! So far I have kept my hand nails quite short and have now started using nail varnish again now that they are in better condition. Up to then I was leaving them without any nail varnish and using lots and lots of handcream rubbed on and around the nails too. I also used rubber gloves for wet work and tried not to let my nails come into contact with chemicals etc.
I do eat kiwi fruit and yoghurt every day and things like this seem to help with all the dry skin, scalp and hair problems.

Well, I think thatΒ΄s all the advice I can come up with at present – please try not to get too despondent as you have come through a pretty difficult time and deserve to pamper yourself a little bit (well quite a lot really). Things really will improve over the next few months – honestly!

    Very best wishes

    Carol xxxxx:-)

    Hello Carol
Thanks very much, it's interesting to know that the skin dryness and nail changes last so long. I had a feeling I had suddenly become 'very high maintenance' instead of just 'plain expensive':-D
I had a patch test for my hair but it's still too itchy, next time hopefully, then it will be lots of highlights I think. I still can't taste alcohol properly- it has a sort of peppery, chillie taste…. I think the revlimid is responsible, but it's working well and I'm not too bad on it so it's not too much of a problem. Anyway you look after yourself

Well, I've been to the hairdresser again. First proper cut in a year, almost to the day. All poodle like curls consigned to the salon floor and very short 'do' again. Quite liberating. Only difference this time is that it's blonde:-) I've never been a blonde before so that's a bit of a novelty to get used to.
Still got horrible dry skin and lots of hard lumpy spots, but some of them have gone now and no recent new ones so it's all progress.

Happy New Hair Cut Helen, I hope Blondes have more fun you will have to let us all know Lol.

I used Oillatum on my skin and still do πŸ™‚ but what it wants is a good few days of sunshine 😎

    Hi Helen
Are you going to post a picture,I think you will look good as a blond!!

Slim has lost his Denis Healy eye brows, and still has no hair to shave with,he says it,s coming back as bum fluff!!(I think that,s what he said:-P )

I must admit, looking forward to Slims hair coming back,he has always had a good head of straight hair, but I believe it comes back curly just cannot see Slim with curly hair when it does come back I will post a picture.Eve

Ha ha Eve! You'll have to get your clippers at him in a few months then. >:-(
While i was away my hair was ok then seemed to suddenly grow lots.! I was looking like a poodle last week, the fine curls were just too grey and unmanageable, so a bit of bleach and toner yesterday, and a short choppy cut and here I am, a blonde:-) its strange to see, having been a brunette with very little grey hair before transplant:-) But my skin tone has also changed too and the dark wig was looking very odd against it so this is the only alternative to grey as its not long enough or strong enough for highlights yet (he says)
And Tom, I'll let you know how I get on with the 'fun';-)

    Hi Helen
For your husband it must be great, waking up to a different woman beside him every week:-)Eve
Bald dark grey then blonde LOL
I usually have my hair very short, because I do not like sitting in hair dresses, last time they just were too scared to cut enough off,so now with this wind i look if i have been dragged through a hedge backwards,Slim walks along with so many clothes on and a woolly hat he looks like a bag man and me with hair flying in my face,Good fun on the sea front people make room for us,:-P.Down in Deal it is very sunny but windy, the type of weather, you can burn in if you under estimate the heat of the sun.Eve
