Thanks to generous benefactors, I’m pleased to announce that Myeloma UK is launching a Respite Care Bursary for people on a low income.

The Bursary provides funding for professional respite carer services so that a carer can take a short break from full-time carer duties. By “carer” we mean someone who looks after a partner, family member or friend who needs help and support because of their myeloma.

We know that taking a break from caring duties is important both for a carer’s wellbeing and the person they look after. We are happy to be able to offer an opportunity to support both carers and patients by contributing towards the cost of a professional agency to provide care at the home of the person with myeloma – allowing them to remain in familiar surroundings and keep their usual daily routine – while the carer takes a break. The Bursary is only available to carers who are on a low income and also meet some additional eligibility criteria.

Applications to the Bursary also need to have the support of a healthcare professional.

If you are interested in applying for the Respite Care Bursary, please call the Myeloma Infoline for more details on 0800 980 3332.
