I don’t know where to start or even know if I have to introduce myself on here. My husband age 56 has just got this diagnosis. It only happened on Weds & the roller coaster has already begun. A quick insight – his muscles had become detached from both of his forearms & we were expecting to see a specialist who would look to getting them back on. Instead, he had detected something from the MRI scan that has led me here. On Weds my husband gave bone marrow, a bone sample was taken, 7 lots of blood, pee sample & about 27 X Ray’s. We were expecting to return for results on 18th October but he got a call the next day (which was Thurs) to return to hospital immediately due to an high amount of calcium in his blood. He was on a drip of sodium chloride for 4 hours then 15mins of zarlinda. We had to go back to the ward the next morn whilst levels were checked then allowed home – he was told that he should just drink water 2.5litres per day. Anyway, on Fri tea time he started with flu like symptoms & is basically knackered – complete sleep deprivation for 2yrs totally taking over. I must have rang the ward a dozen times over the weekend but his temp had been below 37.5 so been told they will just see him at 9am in the morn for another blood check. It is hurting me to see him in so much pain because he keeps holding his side. He can only describe it as worse than a stitch when you have been running. Can anyone out there advise anything other than paracetamol to help him right now.

    many thanks

    Hi Julie

Where exactly is the pain? If it is on the right side of the body it could be something unrelated to myeloma such as appendicitis and you need to get him to the hospital. That would explain the fever too. But hopefully it is not anything too serious and will go away on its own soon. All the best

We have just returned from the hospital & they think it’s muscular, so that’s a bit of a relief.

They gave him some codemol & his calcium levels have come back to normal, so we are thrilled.

We are back at the hospital on Thurs now unless he falls ill.

Thanks for replying to me x
