My wonderful sister (in law) was diagnosed last year. Over the summer had Velcade twice a week for 6 cycles. Stem Cell Transplant in November – very ill during & took ages to recover. 110 days post sct MM now back. Drs using words like rare & aggressive & trying to figure out best way to treat. Three weeks ago she was walking with aid of crutches & waiting for hip replacement date. Now due to Neuropathy cannot walk, left arm also affected & fears that progressing to right side. Pain is chronic but beginning to be managed better. She’s 47! Lives 200 miles away. Finding it difficult to make sense of it all & process the speed of progression. Playing a waiting game & hoping that they find a chemo to stop it in its tracks!!

Found this resource. Wonder if I can find a positive by helping to support others?

    Hi

Don’t despair yet. Things look bad now but it does not necessarily mean that the disease is overly aggressive and untreatable. In fact, if your sister in law has had only Velcade treatment, it is very possible that some of the other drugs work better in her myeloma and that she will get longer remission. There are plenty of drugs to try!
