Hi my name is Sarah and I was diagnosed with smouldering myeloma in April 2024, at present I don’t have any symptoms and all my levels are low, which is good. I went for my 4monthly check up on Tuesday this week and all is good. I suffer from anxiety and what tends to happen is that it start to increase from about a month to 6 weeks before my hospital appointment and every ache or pain that I have I think that the smouldering myeloma is progressing. I am wondering if anyone else feels the same way and what do you do to help your anxiety. Many Thanks Sarah

    Hi Sarah.
I was diagnosed with SM in September last year. I don’t get anxious before an appointment, however, every ache I get I wonder if it’s the illness or something else. The problem is that MM is multi faceted. So many things can go wrong that you can associate with Myeloma.I have also been diagnosed with heart problems just weeks ago which confounds things.
I get help by watching YouTube videos of people with Myeloma. The vast majority are helpful and encouraging. So many positive things regarding treatment if it does develop.
Watching normal people cracking on with life helps me.
    Onwards and upwards.

Thank you for your comment Cathant, I am pleased that you find the you tube clips helpful and that you are lucky not to suffer from anxiety . I find it helpful to know that treatment is progressing. I have an neighbour who has Myeloma who I find an inspiration. Unfortunately it doesn’t stop me from having anxiety when I am coming up to an appointment.
