    Hi Peter,
Seems I am a couple of months ahead of you, having been diagnosed in Easter week. A month earlier I had 'strained my back' but the strain turned out to be crushed vertebrae. 7 cycles of CTD knocked my p protein on the head and as I am (just) young enough for the high dose chemo have started the procedure. Was at the Christie at 8.30 this morning and will return at the same time on Wednesday when the harvest procedure will start hopefully. The drugs that encourage stem cells to enter the blood stream cause some discomfort but the staff at the Christie are very reassuring.

    Hi Chris
I would be interested to see how you get on at Christies, fingers crossed for you !
You must be about my age ( 70 , but keep it to yourself ) but luckily still fit , with most of my faculties still intact ,working hard part time . So they have put me up for the SCT hopefully in Jan
Just started my 5th cycle of CTD, going well PP now at 5 down from 46 pre treatment
About to have to old teeth removed then going onto Zomita, not sure for how long
    Good luck

    Hi again Chris
    As a PS
How long did it take for the effects of The CTD to drain out of your system when you finished your final cycle

Hi you two young men ,the doc told me last week that I wasn't old as you now had to be 85, so that means I have another 4 years, whats to worry about. I was at the docs because i've had pains in the chest and I dont take chances now (like I used to) she said she thought I had Angina not a diagnosis I was looking for, but at least I now have a round number, its 4, SMM,Broncholexasis (S) Diverticolitus, and Angina. must learn to spell all thoughs if I am to impress people. Life goes on though, I go to the emergency clinic on Thursday to check out the chest pain then the scan for the Diverticular problem on the 11th, and you think you cost the health service money 🙂 , as for the drink I do try to keep my doing my share, a few beers and a drop of red keeps my spirits up, so up and onwards. Hi Peter,
It is worth getting the Myeloma.org info. sheet on bisphosphonates. There is an implication in it that you might be on them for ever. Where are you going for treatment? I am at Wythenshawe under Dr. Simon Watt. I was put on Zometa straight away but I had got fractures of my vertebrae that needed attention. The info. sheet suggests that a trip to the dentist before starting Zometa could be a good idea. Will let you know how the stem cell harvest goes.

    Hi Peter,
I will give a separate reply to this one. I started feeling better straight away – within a day or two anyway. After a fortnight I was talking about getting back on my bike but then the harvest procedure started :-(. The dose of cyclophosphamide left me nauseous for 3 days whereas that had not been a problem during the 3 week cycles. However the domperidone antidote worked well. The G-csf injections were OK to start with but after 6 of them I suddenly felt pulsing discomfort in my lumbar region – almost like repeated electric shocks. Low dose of paracetamol seems to keep that under control.

    Hi Chris
I have read the Info sheet on biphosphonates, if on them forever I presume that' a pill can be taken rather than monthly hospital visits, I will take this up with my specialist next visit.
In the States two years seems to be max time.As long as I get another 20/30 years drawing my pension I am not too bothered!
I am being treated at the BMI hospital near Blackburn , god bless my Dad for joining BUPA , we have cost them a fortune this last few years
My specialist is Dr. Rokicka, who hopefully has got me under control , at the end of my 5th cycle in 10 days time I start Zometa & will get briefed on the SCT procedures
The sooner the better, then normal service , I hope , can be resumed
How did they sort out your fractured vertebrae
    Peter
