hi,,after a year of treatment,,velcade,,s.c.t,,etc,,im about to be put on thalidomide maintainance,,im wondering if anyone had good results in terms of,,it keeping,,m.m in check,so to speak,,thanks simon
Hi Simon
I had thalidomide as part of my initial treatment over 3 years ago. I had 6 cycles of it and I responded really well. You’ll probably have to take an aspirin every day or something else to prevent clots, but it certainly worked for me and I’m in a complete, drug-free remission 3 years after my SCT.
It did have side effects but the benefits were worth it.
I know in America they use revlimid for maintenance but not thalidomide. I had thalidomide for my initial therapy and it worked, but left me with neuropathy. Also, as it is a sedative take it about an hour before bedtime. Are they offering it to you because you are not in complete remission? I was never offered any maintenance while in a London, but did achieve stringent complete remission after SCT. Almost 1 year now so doing well.
