Dear all,
I'm British but my mother-in-law lives in the Himalaya in Nepal. She's recently been diagnosed with MM and I've been soaking up as much as I can here and on other websites regarding treatment.
As you can imagine, when I accompany her to a hospital in Nepal, the conditions are pretty shocking; waiting 7 hours in a queue to see a doctor is the norm. I've been using this website to question everything they say, in order to check that they know what they are talking about. (In a country that is largely illiterate, it's amazing what poorly-educated "doctors" can say.) So thanks a lot!
The doctor has prescribed Melphalan for her. I'm going to Kathmandu to buy it (it's not available anywhere except the capital).
My question for people here is whether, as I have read here, Melphalan is an old drug which has generally been replaced by newer medicines? And if so, which ones are they?
Unfortunately I am based in a country where doctors are very poorly trained and are not well updated on changes in the rest of the world.
Thanks for your time and any advice you can give me,
Oliver
