Hi Following a routine myeloma test ( mum and grandma had myeloma) serum protein electrophoresis was normal but urine electrophoresis showed trace of Bence jones and immunofixation discrete monoclonal kappa light chain detected. T/ call from surgery re fast track to haematology. Panic!
    Reply received as follows.
FBC normal as is renal, liver and bone profile. Serum electrophoresis normal. In this situation Urine electrophoresis is not clinically helpful. Serum free light chain requested. If kappa/ lambda ratio normal no further input neceessary

Private blood test done as had to wait 2 weeks for appointment with surgery.
Result was normal ratio 1.62. Good news ? Results sent to Gp a week ago and no contact from him.
All the above info was obtained from my online records on patient access.
So many questions now. Any advice about my situation appreciated. Bence jones points to early stage myeloma. ? Do I need to be monitored with regular blood test ? Etc etc. So worried. Thanks
