Hello Dave, well done, they certainly shot you through the process very quickly, and it would seem that it's been successful, well done, you must be a tough old bird!
As a clue to a way forward, I had my SCT in February, decided against any maintainance drugs, take nothing except a daily Adcal and a monthly penidronate infusion, feel good, had my first set of baby injections and am free to travel and enjoy life.
Do get a bit tired, but I'm 68 years old so put it down to age!
Will you go back full time or do it in easy stages?
Whatever you do best of luck.
    Regards

    Hi Dave,

I am truly surprised that your consultant is happy to let you go back to work after less than 3 months post SCT. I was told to take it very easy for 6 months and then ease my way back into society.:-D

The norm seems to be between 6 to 12 months for return to full-time work… and even if that is a flexible maxim 3 months seems positively silly. You may well look the part and your bloods may say OK… but they are still very immature cells that are producing that blood and you don't want to crash and burn after a few weeks back at work for health and professional reasons.:-P

I wish you all the best but I would take further advice before committing to full-time employment (I am sure that that advice is on the way).;-)

    Dai.

    Hi Dave,

My husband Phil has a slightly different situation as he volunteered for redundancy at the start of 2012 and finished work a week before he was diagnosed so he does not have a job to go back to. Saying that he had five months of treatment before his SCT in December 2012 and he does not feel ready to go back to work yet due to continuing fatigue and neuropathy in his feet. Everyone is different but remember that the fatigue takes a long time to recover from. If Phil has a bad night he can sleep during the day if necessary and there is no stress of trying to deal with work while getting better. I agree with Dai that you should take further advice. Starting back part time would allow you to gauge how you feel and then you can increase your hours if you feel up to it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Hi Dave

Pleased things have gone so well for you.. One thought, have you had any bone involvement. If so I would be pressing for monthly infusion of Zometa or similar.

    Very best wishes.

Hi all , my GP and specialist have said I'm ok for work now , it's been 12 months so will take it easy
I don't really follow the guide books I'm afraid re it takes 6 months post sct, I think a positive attitude to fight mm is needed.
I spent 5 months in a wheelchair , this was put down to thalidomide , now I can walk again its time to live again.
I still have a little back pain but nothing too serious , I've had a great team behind me doctors , nurses etc
It's good to get back to a normal life !!!!
Thank you for your replies .
