    Hi Ali
welcome to the site sorry you have had to join it must have been a terrible blow to you both this site is wonderful for help and advice and as for the DEX we have invented a new word here for it DEXITUDE I think most people find this drug hard to deal with but at least it usually has the desired effect on the beast called Myeloma good luck with the treatment

    Hi Keith
sorry you are feeling so unwell, When I was first diagnosed i was already a type 11 diabetic but very well controlled only two small tablets a day as soon as dex kicked in it was insulin for me as it shot the sugars though the roof coming of of dex and a sugar high feels like the worst thing going but the insulin did help control it a bit, because i take a small dose of steriod now for my kidneys i have stayed on the insulin i manage ok just a small dose am and one pm it seems ok you just have to remember to take a sugary snack out with you incase you go a bit low so you may feel better with the insulin not the tablets once you are off the steriods completly things may settle down again and you could be back to normal
    Hope you feel better soon

    Hello Dia

sorry you are still not feeling to well when i had the bad stomach bug last year it turned out to be compilabacter my consultant got me to take a stool sample to the lab so they identify which bug it was as some bugs only respond to certain anti b's this may be the case with you
    Hope you feel better soon

    Hello Dee

I was admitted to hospital with pnuemonia and renal failure and what turned out to be MM i had cdt from the start and it was touch and go with my kidneys i did not have dialysis it may come in the future but at the moment my kidneys function between 15 and 20% I have been in good partial remmission since april 2009 as long as your dads kidneys are stable he should avoid diaysis they ajusted the dose of some of the CDT drugs so I didnt not have such a high dose of cyclophopermide sorry about spelling)
i was diagnosed jan 2009at the age of 61 the type of diaysis on offer is the one in the stomach which you have to do every day or one in a vein which is three times a week I would choose the one in the vein for at least you get 4 days off but I hope it never happens I have been fairly well in this time and have had serveral holidays some to europe

    Hello Charlie

welcome so sorry you have had to join but you will find such help and support here I would not have got through many times without it I cannot tell you about treatments except CDT many are not open to me as MM caused me to have real failure it has worked quite well for me as a stem cell transplant is not an option for me. I have just got back from the I.O.W so I think it will be a bit difficult for you if finances are tight you may be able to have help from McMillian good luck
