Hello all,
Another big gap in the updates (I'm rubbish at this!).
Anyway, Etta got discharged last Weds (5th). A bit earlier than I anticipated but they were happy enough with her levels and the D&V had calmed down considerably.
She had been on anti-biotics for a high temp but then they found out it was an infection in her Hickman line which was causing problems so they removed that on the Tuesday. Tests on Weds AM proved all clear so it was homeward bound!
We went back on Friday AM for blood tests and everything came back positive so thats a good sign, back this Friday for another checkup.
She is managing to keep down small amounts of food and is sleeping a lot, but I keep trying to get her moving around at least once a day to keep her strength up.
The only down side at the moment seems to be a bout of throwing up. It's weird though as it seems to be mostly wind then the bile starts. I have started her back on the Metaclopramide (the anti-sickness ones). They gave her an anti-viral (Aciclovir) which she hates the tastes of as it dissolves as soon as you take it and some Co-Trimoxazole (no idea what they do!).
Does anyone know if this windy/bile sickness is normal or should I be ringing up and asking about it?
Ali: Yes, your notes on your mum were a great help thanks, good to know she is doing well and I will know what to expect 🙂
Vicki: I know exactly what you mean, we all seem to be good at preaching to others but never take the same advice!
Best wishes to all.
Craig
Hello all,
Sorry I've not been on but been a bit busy tootling up and down the motorway everyday working and visiting.
All went well, just coping with the sickness and "the other end" at the moment! They put a driver in with anti-sickness stuff in after a few days as Etta was throwing up a lot. It seems to have done the trick but she's still not eating a lot and she does have the odd bout of sickness.
She's sleeping a lot at the moment but I guess it's just her bodies way of telling her to let it get on with it's job of getting her better. She starts her GCwhatjamacallit injections tonight, for 5 nights to help kick start her cells, but so far the doctors are pleased with her blood results and the staff here at Blackpool are great, can't do enough for you.
Will keep you posted with what's happening.
All the best to everyone,
Craig
Good luck with it, it will be worth it !

We used World First for the planned trip to Oz in December.
They asked where we were up to in treatment, about antibiotics and hospital stays etc and the quote came in about £300 including cancellation cover, medical expenses and all the other stuff, and that was for both of us.
Might be worth giving them a ring to have a chat.

Hi Tom I hope you get picked you deserve to as you are friendly to every one on here,Good Luck.
Love Etta .
Hi Tom, Craig here (she's fast asleep so snuck on)
That was the first question she asked the consultant at Blackpool when we went to see him!! Never mind the treatment plan, can I fly? LOL
He said as long as she was fit enough to travel he had no objections, I think she's determined come hell or high water that we're off down under at Xmas 🙂
Hopefully all will be well but I have told her if she's not up to it, then that's all there is to it and we go in the new year sometime instead, the girls will understand.
All being well she should be going in around 4 weeks time, they're going to confirm the date but said to expect mid August, Sarah our coordinator has given us a good idea of what to expect and they seem a great bunch at Blackpool. Everyone we've spoken to there has said how good they are.
She's been a restless patient today having to keep off her feet and she's having another night in the bed downstairs too (I insisted so I will be in the bad books again tomorrow) as I didn't want her putting too much pressure on her leg trying to get upstairs.
Anyway, time to hit the sack. Night all.
Craig
