    Hi Sarah

Sorry to be late into this thread. My husband was diagnosed at 53 in Nov 2008 One of the chemo nurses told us to apply for a blue badge straight away as anybody receiving chemotherapy was entitled to be considered. Stephen was also told to fill out the form as if it were his worst day.

The nurse (bless her) said that you don't get much from being ill you might as well at least have a badge.

Debs is right, when Stephen is in a bad way it does make getting into buildings easier without a long walk. He does not bother with it on good days as he is always pleased to feel "more normal" and be able to walk further.

Parking in most places is free for blue badge holders (SHAME ON YOU Kings College Hospital. They charge the earth for parking badge or no badge)

    Regards Gill

Bon Voyage Min. Have a great time and report back to us all on your return.

    Love from Gill xx

PS Poopie is getting the hang of pooing/peeing in the right place. We have realised that we were very lucky with Echo (same breed now 3) She was spotless. She would not use the poopie mat twice but would go right next to it if we had not noticed she had used it before and it needed changing (I think we worked out that the mats cost 30p per pee for her.

Mind you Echo is a very sedate, slow moving lady and Anya is a mad idiot tramp type of dog. Echo greets you with a slow wag and "allows" you to scratch behind her ear where as Anya turns herself inside out trying to climb inside you

    Welcome Home

One tip forget the clippers shave the whole lot. When Stephen (mm husband)clipped his hair very short it meant that the bits that fell out (it all does) were sharp and prickly and stuck in his face during the night.

Strange thing was that when his hair grew back it grew in the opposite direction. Before the chemo his hair grew backwards and he had to make sure that he didn't have an Elvis quiff Now it grows forwards and he has to make sure he doesn't look like he's impersonating one of the Beatles:-)

A welcome from me too. My husband had his first SCT in 2008. He was one of the lucky ones in that, apart from the loo trot on a regulat basis, he got through it unscathed.

The neutropenic (sp) diet did not cause a problem as he did lose his appetite and even the special menu in Kings College Hospital was foul. Great staff, wonderful treatment but foul food. Well you cannot have everything.

When he came home I did wrap him in cotton wool a bit. Visitors were told "If you have a sniffle. Stay away" The first time we went out we went to a local restaurant for lunch. They have a huge area at the back of the restaurant that isn't used during the lunch period but we are quite regular customers and they were happy to let us sit there away from other diners who may have had some terrible lurgy.

Stephen was half way through his Skate in black butter with chips when I realised he was EATING THE SALAD GARNISH!!! "You'r not supposed to eat that" I said the reply was "OH bu**er that I am really enjoying it" He was fine.

Good luck with your SCT I hope all goes well and you get a long remission.

    Kind Regards Gill

David that was brilliant.I have only sung it in my head and at a whisper so far as it is late at night and Stephen is asleep. But tomorrow I will sing to Stephen at the top of my (terrible out of tune) voice
