I am sure that your Dad's medical team will make sure he has no pain. My Dad died quite a few years ago at 75 I was told at the time that "pain is not allowed on this ward" and I was very grateful to hear that.

    Very best wishes from Gill

Easy enough to say but I think action is needed a brouhaha (sp? what a lovely word) is needed. Quiet firm words and refusal to leave the hospital just may make them stand up and take notice.

I do hope things improve soon Gill xxx

    Hi Gina

My mm husband (Stephen) had terrible breathlessness for a while. They did check it out but were not unduly worried as it seemed to be par for the course. It has now passed and he is not gasping for breath at all. I wonder (no medical knowledge what so ever) if it is the cocktail of drugs that spark it off.

Stephen's drugs have been altered frequently since his second SCT

Hope all goes well for your mum Gillxx

Sarah I am so sorry that Gordon is so unwell. You must both be relieved that he is home.

There is so little that the people on here can do for you but I am sure that you know that we are all willing Gordon well. Whether through prayer or kind thoughts.

    Hi Keith

Stephen (mm husband) has not long completed his second SCT. To be honest it is "one day chicken and the next day feathers" but he is improving all the time. Hope you are back on your feet soon Gill xx

PS for reference I spent some time in Ypsilanti Michigan in the 70s. There were a great many people from Kentucky who had moved to Michigan to work at the Ford factories. Some things were known as Ypsi-tucky sayings the chicken thing is one and the other I still use today is "if God's willing, and the creek don't rise" 😎

    Hi Amelie

I do wish I had some answers for you I know that you are not resident in the UK. My memory is not good but I think you are in Holland??

I am sure that you would get help from the mm information line which is a freephone number from the UK but I have no idea if you can access it from other countries.

As for attending consultations with John, I think you should bite the bullet (silly Brit saying) and offer. You are obviously great friends and I am sure that he will say yes or no without fear of offending you.

Please get in touch with all of us soon and let us know how John is getting on

Very best wishes from Gill xx

Hi to both new posters and sorry you are here. My husband has mm, diagnosed in November 2008 aged 53. He has just had his second Stem Cell Transplant as he relapsed. Fingers crossed for this one.

As for hiccups This stupid remedy works every time but you do need somebody to help you. Drink a large glass of water from the wrong side of the glass (ie the outer rim when you hold it up to your mouth) with your fingers in your ears. Hence help needed. Glug it as quickly as you can. It never ever fails. Yes you do look like an idiot and no it is not April 1st:-) It really does work

I looked up the article that Min mentioned in the Daily Mail. It was interesting, but I was amazed at one of the comments made it seemed, to me, quite vitriolic. I did not realise that you can comment on articles shown on line. I wonder if they are monitored.

As an aside before I had even started to cook the aforementioned chicken etc. Stephen felt quite poorly so dry crackers were preppared for supper BUT he managed a huge helping of chicken and fritters today (oops yesterday)and thanks for your good wishes Bridget but POOPY still hasn't quite got the the idea. I am really pleased that we have tiled floors downstairs and a stairgate which stops any mess on carpets

PS to Dai the infection was in his Hickman line. In the actual tube. Very lucky it did not get into his whole body

PS to Min Stephen has only had thalidomide in CDT not as maintenance

PS to Eve. I never thought about the cost regarding the supply of thalidomide to pregnant women. I wonder if it was an expensive, heartbreaking experiment 50 years ago.

PPS to Eve No trips to France yet but we have booked for October in hope

    Oh Sarah

I do hope everything turns out OK. Stephen was admitted on the quick with an infection and is starting to feel better. I really hope it is the same for Gordon.

I am sure you know that everybody on here is rooting for you both

    Love from Gill xxx

My daughter has been known to say, within earshot of people that take up children's spaces, "OOH look kids there are some of those invisible babies again." She no longer needs childrens' spaces for her 2 as they are long out of the pushchair stage. But she has said to me that it is in the interest of others for mums getting prams etc out of cars as it means they don't hit your car door by mistake.

Is it just in our area that people take up disabled bays without disabled badges? The other week there was a very large car parked sideways across 2 disabled bays at our cottage hospital. This is a small hospital with no A & E facility tucked away down country lanes. So I cannot believe the person that parked there was an A & E casualty.

I have got so cross and am am sooo naughty that I have little squares of paper showing a disabled sign and underneath the words printed OOPs you forgot to display your badge. My daughter has started to carry them too

If the disabled bays are full of cars with no badge and we cannot park anywhere near the hospital entrance I have been known to pop one under the windscreen wiper.

Stephen hates me doing it and says don't bother, but somehow it makes me feel better (being bolshi again?)

I should probably have been a traffic warden >:-(
