Stephen has not been too well, he's now on velcade IV with dex as a side line !! It is all taking its toll but we collected the puppy yesterday

It was a good move in our life to get the puppy but very tiring. Our 2 year old westie, Echo (short for Ecosse) has always adored visiting dogs. Well what went wrong here??? She is now waiting for Anya (as in Montagne) to go back. I do hope they will become friends

Food is the biggest issue (Echo would happily kill!!). The puppy quite likes to get into Echo's bed but all Echo does is ignore her and lay on the central heating pipes. We had forgotton how loudly pups yelp at night when left. Hence me being up at this time to try and get this house back to the quiet place it was. I will try and attach photos in the next few days.

I do hope everybody is OK Stephen is still not good on the dex. The mood swings do seem to depend on the dose prescribed and his backache is getting worse. MM is bad enough but to relapse so quickly has been devastating Gill xx PS all quiet the flipping pup must have worn herself out>:-)

Oh you rotten lot! I have only just picked up on this thread and am so moved by everybody's thoughts that it is hard to see the keyboard through the tears.

I too would like to say thank you to everybody on here for support, encouragement and some smiles.

    Love from Gill xx

I am really sorry Ron I am guilty as charged it was me that started the "made up" word of dexatude to describe the horrible attitude my mild mannered kind and caring husband gets when he is on the dexamethasone. I am truly sorry if I misled you. I do know that when I asked one of Stephen's chemo nurses about the mood swings he gets she told me that they were aware that they could occur but did not mention them as not everyone suffered from them.

Do ask your wife's consultant about the side effects that she is experiencing and fingers crossed that she does not get mood swings (dexatude). If she does as Min said it is the dex talking not your wife.

Do let us all know how it goes

    Very sorry Gill xxx

    Hi Bridget

Hope you are feeling better bit by bit. I remember Stephen being told that the RT would not help the pain much to start with and did take a while for it to diminish.

    Hi Laura

I am so sorry your mum has been diagnosed with mm. What a shock for both of you. It is my husband with mm (diagnosed 2008 aged 53)

There is an under 50s site on here that may be of some help to you and your mum (I don't think they are that fussy about a year here or there around the 50 mark:-) . Can you talk to whoever is responsible for pastoral care at school? As others have said do contact the MacMillan support line on 0808 808 00 00.

You can also talk to somebody on the myeloma line on 0800 980 3332.

And please keep posting here and try and get your mum to post I know from past experience that everybody here will be more than willing to support you and your mum in any way we can.

    Best wishes from Gill

    Hi Gaye

I have not been able to post for a while (must have been gremlins in my computer) so am catching up. I do hope you are getting on better with your round of drugs.

As for your NIMBYs I am nowhere nearly as charitable as you are. I hope these NIMBYs DO need a hospice at some stage and there is not one for them as some other ar**h**e has NYMBYied it out of being built!!!!!!>:-(

    Hi MIn

I am sorry that the Co-Enzyme Q 10 did not work for Peter. What strength was he taking? Stephen started out on 120mg which is what I was taking because of cramp due to taking beta blockers. It worked for a while but started coming back. He now takes 200mg and is much better.

Touch wood he does not get cramp in his calf muscles any more although he does, sometimes, get a bit of cramp in his middle fingers. I think it is because he sleeps on his back with his hands clasped over his chest. He says it will save anybody laying him out !!! (my husband has a very sick sense of humour)

    Dear Bridget AKA Thunderthighs

I have found your will power, well at least I caught sight of it. It was running down my garden with mine. Your will power was covered in roast potatoes, bacon and bread and mine was dripping with chocolate and red wine.

I did give chase but because of the weight I have put on over Christmas the little blighters easily got away and ran into the bushes to hide.

I sent in our dog but, after a while, she came out still just 12 inches high but about 36 inches wide. They had obviously got to her with their evil temptation.

I have not read all the postings for a couple of days as we were away so I missed this one from you Min. I am so sorry that Peter's news has been not particularly good.

MM is so hard to track. Stephen was really well and feeling fine apart from a bit of back ache when we were told he had relapsed. What a shock

    Gill xx
