  • Hi Carol,

Although selling a house / flat is inconvenient, it is not hard to do from overseas. I sold a house last year, my solicitor was fine, everything was done over the internet and any important documents were signed and scanned before posting. I believe for most things except the final contract, a scanned copy is acceptable. My solicitor…[Read more]

Er, Andy, can you switch the predictive text off? If it’s crap, why use it?

  • andyg replied to the topic And cycle 8 begins in the forum Treatment 10 years, 2 months ago

Just had to edit a lot of that last post! Bloody predictive text on here hasn’t improved any. It does make posting a pain sometimes.
Lizzie just checked with the wife and she says the telephone number is on the website.

    Every day is a gift

    Ps Lizzie phone number is 0845 2 307 155

    Hi Lizzie.
I think I read somewhere that even “healthy” people can have a trace of paraproteins in their blood. So your doing great. Your in remission when your stable and your PPs are very low or not present. So I’d say a couple more blood tests with the same results and you’ll be classed as being in remission. Consultants do seem to be a bit…[Read more]

    Hi Babs.
I’m half way through my 9th cycle now. My PPs are stable for the moment.
It’s my steroid night but I will try and keep this post short and to the point and not ramble on to much! Oops there I go.
The steroids are the main down side of my Pom/Dex. I feel the best since I was diagnosed I’m eating and drinking well. I can actually taste…[Read more]

  • Hi Nick.
Sorry that your mums joined the Myeloma crew.
Quality of life is the big factor in the treatment or no treatment debate.
Your mums age will mean if the docs do treat her they won’t give her the “full” treatment however the side effects are still quite severe. Steroids are no walk in the park they lift you up and then you crash. Though I…[Read more]

  • Hi Susie.
I was on RCD for 22 cycles and the main problems I had were being neutropenic most of the time ie neutrophils below 1.0 my other bloods weren’t too good either and nausea for a couple of days after taking the cyclophosphamide. Aciclovir, which I also took and still do is an anti viral and allopurinol which I didn’t take is for prevention…[Read more]

  • Hi Mary

We have lovely nurses on this site Ellen and Maggie, the number is at the top of the page plus it’s free, talk to them, they can send you booklet plus give you lots of information.

When someone is first diagnosed,it’s very hard to take in all the information,I had never heard of Myeloma, try not to go looking on the net until you can have…[Read more]

Thank you all for your condolences

Although expected it still seems so unreal.at the moment I am ok as I have said earlier I have no regrets,it’s a comfort to me that Slim lived and died just the way he wanted to,many people specially in death,do not get the death they wanted, plus many things are left unsaid.

Slim wanted a non religious…[Read more]

  • Hi Nick, all good advice from previous posts. This is a fabulous place to get the advice and support you need.

I can’t offer any additional advice except maybe to reinforce the fact that Myeloma is treatable ( if not curable) and she has the same chance as the rest of us of achieving remission and a good quality of life for many years.

    I wish…[Read more]

  • Well folks, I have not been on the site for a few weeks, I had asked for a second opinion as I was told that I would definitely be on treatment within 18 months and couldn’t understand how that could be predicted in MM. Sooooo upset by the news. I had really thought that I might stay Asymptomatic for some years yet.

    Anyway, still definitely…[Read more]

  • Hi Susie,

I haven’t been on for a while, it looks like I too will be joining the ranks of MM on treatment shortly as all the numbers going (quite quickly) upwards.  Now on six weekly monitoring and feeling a little sorry for myself, so like a little turtle popped my head back into my shell.

I can understand why you would not wish to join the…[Read more]

    Dear Eve,

We are both very saddened to hear of Slim’s passing. We have read your ups and downs for the last 18 months since my diagnosis. We knew it was hard for the both of you, maybe more so for you – Marines tended to take things in their stride from what I remember of the brief contact I had with them (Scary people!). I doubt if anyone else…[Read more]

Eve, I can completely understand why you feel so numb. Your past few months must have been so emotionally and physically intense caring for Slim. From all of your posts, Slim sounded so positive in his approach to this awful cancer even during his final few months, which would have been because he always had you by his side for the love and…[Read more]

Eve so shocked to hear of Slims passing. My thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. You were Slim’s rock and I’m sure he was glad that he had you in his corner. My love to you all

    Hi Everybody

I am posting this with a sense of numbness ,after all this time it seems so unreal.

Slim died on Wednesday the 27 of August ,there is not much more I can say, thank you to all the people on here and at Myeloma UK who have helped me over a period of three years,I have laughed and cried at many postings but most of all I knew you all…[Read more]

    Hi Jeff,

if I remember rightly, in the early 90’s the company you worked for started reducing its workforce by investing in new technology, you’ll know more about it than me. But, if that is so then the incidence of MM within former employees is even higher and on that point I think it really needs serious investigation. I am happy to contact…[Read more]

Bit too much of a coincidence me thinks!

  • Hi Nick

I imagine that you could talk to your mum about the up to date treatments for Myeloma ’til the cows come home, but the big hurdle you face here isn’t her physical state, it’s her mental/emotional state of mind.

My dad died 5 years ago and sadly, it’s been as if my mum went too. She’s never got over it as they were married for 56 years…[Read more]
