    Hi Daniel
the fact that your dad had a really good remission of around 6 years after his first SCT suggests he'll get a good response from his second. I'd hesitate to give you any further advice on this but the fact that he's on for a second SCT is also good as they feel his constitution can take it.

I'm sure there are some highly informed people on here who understand what all those letters are on our blood tests. Would be great if someone could put together an explanatory document or posting.

I had this discussion with my specialist before xmas. Tom's right, low impact activity, walking, swimming (no diving) are good. Avoid high impact sports, skiing and also weights.

I've seen research that shows that people's physical activity drops off quite dramatically following MM. We know that exercise is important for health though and the immune system so important to do it even when feeling crap. 🙂

Megan thanks so much for your posts. I have SCT to look forward to (not really the right expression!) in April. I will be starting chemo at some point this month in the lead up to it.

I too have found the SCT journey posts like yours very helpful in understanding what I will be facing and wonder if it might be an idea for the Moderators of the forum to put them in a dedicated thread so that they are easy to find and add too?

I will be documenting my experiences for certain.

    all the best

Eva and others interested. Message me your email addresses and I will post to you. Remember this is a public site and people from outside can see your messages. You may want to think about that before posting your email address on the forum 🙂

Tim message me your address and I'll send it through. Each article is a different PDF.
I'd be very interested in any material from the London event too. Thanks.

    Hi Steve,
Sorry you had to join the club.

I'm 47 and will be starting PAD in January (bortezomib, doxorubicin and dexamethasone) for 2 cycles leading to an autologous stem cell transplant hopefully around April time.

I'm based in london and will be treated at UCH. I can only echo the comments above, learn as much about this crappy disease as possible (know your enemy), the resources on this site are good and also the myeloma beacon site.

The more you know, the better informed your treatment options will be, the better chance you will have of hanging in there until they manage a cure or near as damn it.

Your consultant doesn't sound that helpful? Maybe think about finding someone else although this process can be complicated in its own right.

    Hang in there brother.

    Tom

    Thanks Eva and Helen.

It's so useful to know that this is common.
I'm still feeling a bit rough today but I'm up and about. My old bones are aching a bit and I feel like I've got a bit of a hangover without the pleasure of having had the drink the night before.

I will go into work later and trawl for sympathy…

Dear Keith and Michele thanks for taking the time to answer. This afternoon I've actually begun to feel slightly better so hopefully I'll be up and about tomorrow.
