Your story has given us hope. My husband is still in rehabilitation after 4 months in hospital for spinal operations as he has partial paralysis. He is has just finished cycle 2 on CTD and we get his results tomorrow.

Fingers crossed the treatment is working and we can get him home soon.

  • Hi Sue

Sorry isn't enough but you will also feel releived that Michael isn't suffering any more. I know you will miss him terribly but also have happy memories of your time together.

I do wish they would find a cure for this disease.

For now take comfort in your family and friends and when you are ready live life to the full.

    Hi Helen

It is a big shock to discover that you have myeloma but as you say Ian can make progress. I try to get him to think of the positive things that have happened but it must be hard for him to lie in bed every day. He is on day 12 today a dex day so he will be stronger to do more physio.

I find I need a release and try to get some of…[Read more]

    Hi Eve

Thanks for your advice. I have started massaging his pressure points but as he is not in a room on his own I can only do some of them but Ian does like it. Doctor has decided that he can get out of bed and sit on a special chair for one hour per day.

Not very impressed with NHS as Ian is always worried about his care and the…[Read more]

My daughter is having a civil wedding in July in London and hopefully Ian will be well enogh to attend. That is his next goal.

    Hi Eve

Ian got the bed sore when he was in Edinburgh waiting for his spinal wound to heal. The nursed there turned hime every 2 hours but when he was transferred back to FVH the nurses didn't turn him as they said the air bed was enough. This is what has set Ian back and he is now getting turned every 2 hours. I

  • Ian has been advised by the doctor in rehab that he will not be out of bed until the bed sore he has on his bottom has healed. This could take months and he will now be so depressed and we thought he was moving forward. They will work on his uper body and legs when he is in bed.

Why is life so unkind, it seems we get one step forward and 2…[Read more]

Pleased that your treatment is working. The waiting time you had was horrid and I hope you continue to keep well.

Ian is now in rehab in Falkirk. He was sent last Friday but on Sunday had a temperature of 38 so the gp thought he should go bakc to FVH. We had to wait 4 hours on an ambulance and then another 2hours for a doctor to see…[Read more]

  • Hi Sue

I can't imagine what you are feeling and hope that all our prayers will help you and Michael. Life is so unkind, my husband Ian was diagnosed in October and has lost the use of his legs as he had a compressed spine. I didn't sleep and cried for 3 weeks. Sometimes I think he will walk again and have at least 10 years but other times I…[Read more]

    Hi Jo

Thanks for replying. Ian had bad side effects from the dex first time round. Couldn't sleep very anxious so I hope he will be ok this time. We do not know if he will get SCT as he has had 3 ops on his spine so he will have to be assessed later.

    Have you had SCT?

Ian's light chains have not dropped very much so the doctor is increasing the dosage of steroids to 40mg and theledamoid to 100gms. He had bad side effects when he had this dose before but he also had a bad ionfection. Hopefully he will be ok this time.

Ian is ok now, and we have just been told he is being transferred to Falkirk tomorrow for intense physio and rehabilitation. It's great news as it's one step nearer to having him home. Ian is a little anxious as he doesn't like change and likes to be in control, but I'm sure it will be ok.

    Hi Helen

    Thanks for your advice.

Ian is in hospital and I mentioned to the nurse about his confusion when I was visiting. I have now phoned and asked if it could be a subclinical infection but they have taken blood samples which are fine. They are now testing his urine.

Ian is on day 16 of CTD and is becoming confused and tired. I hope it doesn't get like before as he had an infection and was like a raving lunatic one moment and then a zombie the next.

Fingers corssed that he will be ok.
