  • Dear Roz

you have had such a tough time and you should have no reason to feel guilty. You have been with Michael as much as you can, it is not going to help him if you make yourself ill by being there.
As a nurse who has worked in the local hospice for 10 years, I have seen relatives like you sit for many days and nights at their loved ones…[Read more]

  • Hi Shirley

I'm glad everything is looking positive at the moment. I hope they get enough cells from your sister at the next attempt and that your appetite improves enough so you can enjoy some Christmas dinner ( although my thoughts on hospital food is it leaves a lot to be desired and no wonder none of us have any appetite while we are…[Read more]

The last 18 months since my diagnosis have definately been a roller coaster ride, one which I would preferably rather not be on! However, here we all are, so I would like to thank you all for your support, even if its just been that by reading your posts it makes me feel like I am not alone.
So I wish you all a merry Christmas and all the best…[Read more]

  • Hi Katie
My bloods have remained fine with both my para-protiens and light chains undetectable. I think this is why my consultant wants a biopsy. I had total body irradiation as part of my conditioning treatment for my allo and that has about a 5% risk of developing a secondary cancer. I wasn't brave enough to ask what else it might be if not…[Read more]

  • Thanks Gaye, it is as Bridget says a bummer! (in more sense than one as that is where this plasmacytoma is!) But I have 2 kids so Christmas will be as normal as possible for them.
I have the opposite problem to you in that my head is full of holes! Well my skull is full of lytic lesions so my skull x-ray looks like a holey mess- as my husband…[Read more]

  • Thank you all for your responses. Just knowing that somebody out there understands how I feel helps.
Katie, its interesting to hear that you also developed a lump after 18 months, although I am sorry you relapsed so soon. My consultant says if it is a plasmacytoma he will scan me for any further lumps or bumps! Unfortunately I have also had a…[Read more]

    Hi Bridget

I am so sorry to hear that the velcade has not worked. I wish you better luck with the revlimid and for 2011.

    Love Sharon x

  • Thanks guys, yes we also thought that it was going to give me a long remission. I have had some complications with GvHD but I thought this was a good thing as it would also create the graft versus myeloma effect as well. We are hoping it is just a solitary tumour and radiotherapy will sort it, but my consultant wants me to have a biopsy just to…[Read more]

  • Hi all
I'm generally not one for posting but I know there are a few of you out there that have had allo sct's. I had mine in February this year, I developed pain in my hip and left leg at the beginning of the month, x-rays were clear, but an MRI shows I have a 2 x 4cm tumour on my sacral area of the spine. My consultant was surprised as my…[Read more]

  • Hi Bella

My Sister-in-law's mother-in-law ( my husbands, sister's mother-in-law confusing I know!) lived on Anglesey. Sadly she died a few years ago from Breast cancer, but had all her treatment in Bangor and I've never heard my sister-in-law complain about the treatment she recieved. Sometimes the haematology department has a web site I know…[Read more]

    Dear Roz

I'm sorry to hear your news, I may not post very often but I have read how you and Micheal have struggled. I am thinking of you both at this difficult time, but Roz, as hard as it is and as much as you want to spend every last minute you can with him, you must look after yourself.

Thank you Gaye, the consultant has now done the ward round. It appears that it is my sacrum causing the problem and not my hip! They are referring me an orthopaedic consultant to have a biopsy done on my sacrum (tail like bone at the bottom of the spine)…….lovely! The scan showed it was swollen but they don't know why but it is not avascular…[Read more]

    Hi Kevin
Sorry to hear that your sct has failed. I am also in hospital at the moment having picked up an infection. I am also waiting to hear the results of my mri I had yesterday on my hip. They think that I have either developed avascular necrosis from all the steroids I have taken, or like you my allo has failed already and the myeloma is…[Read more]

  • Hi Shirley

I am doing ok thanks, although have got a bit of a sore throat at the mo and seem to be getting some joint pain, not sure if thats related to the early menopause all the treatment has caused though! Everybody still keeps away when they don't feel well! But I have 2 kids and I can't send them away!
I have been out a little bit…[Read more]

  • Hi Shirley

Just wishing you luck for your allo! Just remember that it may take you a bit longer to recover, and I know I felt like I would never feel normal again, but you do eventually! You become paranoid about picking up infections!

Not so good about being in for christmas, but I'm sure you're family and the staff will try their best.…[Read more]

    Hello Tina
Isn't it nice to be able to see everyone! Unfortunately I have had to use a pre-transplant photo as I have refused to have my photo taken since!!!! My hair is now a very short curly mess!
