    Hi David

When I was on my CTD treatment I noticed a sudden swollen calf muscle. I had a hospital appt the next day and was sent for a scan. This showed a lower leg deep vein thrombosis which was treated with Warfarin for 6 months.
Obviously yours may be a different problem and I hope you can get a definite explanation soon.

    Hi Rebecca
I was taken into hospital with kidney failure in july 2007 and light chain myeloms was diagnosed during my stay in the renal unit.My creatinine level was 800 and I was prepared for dialysis including the low potassium diet.
I had CTD treatment for 4 months then had to have a major bowel operation.
when I recovered from the surgery I had a stem cell transplant. This was 12 months after diagnosis and I believe my Melphelan dose was reduced.
I have been in remission since the SCT and my creatinine ;evel is 142.
I have excellent care from the renal consultant in Preston and the haematologist in Blackpool seeing them every 6 and 3 months respectively.
I had Aranesp injections for 3 years until my haemaglobin levels stabilsed at 12.8.
I am 69 now and feel well.
    All the best Ann

    Hi Jo
I was diagnosed 5 years ago via kidney failure and was on an Aranesp injection every week for three years then once a fortnight for a year.
My haemoglobin became 12.5 so the renal consultant stopped the injections.

I managed the injection myself and there was an excellent delivery service,
the stuff is kept in the fridge and brought out 30 minutes before use.
    No noticable side effects.
    Regards Ann

    Hello Mandy
I have just asked my daughter who has had 30 years of swallowing capsules
for epilepsy. She suggested emptying the capsule onto a teaspoonful of honey and swallowing that.
I do think you should seek professional advice to check of this is OK with Thalidomide, perhaps Ellen on the Myeloma Infoline could advise you.
    Kind regards Ann

    Hi Jill
I developed shingles about 4 weeks ago and the rash has improved considerably but there are still times when I get stabbing pains -a bit like a wasp sting and I do still feel tired.I did take Acyclovir for 7 days and have used 2 bottles of calamine lotion.
Cold patches were very soothing including a wheat bag that we usually heat up
but put in the freezer this time.
I also had a few paracetomol at the beginning and rested most of the first week.
The GP said if I was left with any residual pain there were creams and medications I could have.
Hope your Mum soon feels better

    Hi Sean
It is a good idea to gather as much information so you are prepared if you become unwell in the future. The http://www.directgov.co.uk website has a lot of information on disability including benefits and there is a Benefit Enquiry Line
0800 882200 which may be helpful.

    Kind RegardsAnn
