    Hi John

I would get your consultant to check if you have compression of the spine. My husband was in terrible pain in his back and demanded an mri scan and they found a tumour . When he started on the dex he started to lose mobility as he had broken vertebrae and the tumour was holding up his spine. Had to get a spinal operation to repair spine.

Great news David. Hope you get a long remission.

Ian has to have another operation to remove the pin in his spine as the mri scan showed an infection . Hope his bones have fused and it is a quick operation. Can you advise me on khasoplasty?

Are you cooking something nice for dinner?

    Hi Dai

Good to see you are making progress. I do not envy Janet with the washing in this weather. It has rained all week here but we have still managed to get out every day.

Ian had an air bed in hospital but still had to be turned every 2 hours to let his bed sore heal. Got a blow up mattress on his bed at home and on chair.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hi Andy

You have been busy travelling. It's good to hear you can enjoy holidays. Ian and I are thinking of a holiday in the UK for our first holiday to see how it goes. Ian is now using crutches. The awful noise from the zimmer gives me a headache.

Ian had an mri scan on Saturday to check on his back and also waiting on blood results. Hopefully all is well.

21 weeks of chemotherapy. No wonder your body is starting to run down. Are you sure it wasn't the beer?

    Hope you get remission soon.

    Every day is a gift

    Hi Beverly

Had our wine quota this week and also went to the cinema to see Sunshine on Leith. Great feelgood movie. We have had a hard time but are now adjusting to each other fairly well.

Not so cold as wet here at the moment. I find comfort in my faith.

    Hi Eve

Sorry you are both having a rough time. Hopefully it won't be long till Slim is back in good health.

Ian has done some research and we went to a mobility shop yesterday. He wants to buy a mobility4 wheeler with a seat as it is easier to use outside. Contacting occupational therapist to ask her opinion.

We have now cancelled the carer at night too as I am capable seeing Ian into bed. He does most of it himself. Now only coming in on morning to help him shower but Ian does most of it too and it is better for his morale if he is independant. We have to pay for the carers as Ian has a percentage of his wage and he US under 65.

Getting out and about more and we have adjusted better.

    Take care

    Hi Dick

Ian looked and felt much better after his much needed haircut. We went to the cinema yesterday to see Sunshine on Leith. We both enjoyed it very much. Laughed and cried. Good Scottish humour. Had lunch at an Indian restaurant today but there were no disabled toilets. We didn't realise we would have to research restaurants and parking before going out.

    Good news Dai

Hope the new drug will get those light chains down and in remission.

Ian had a high blood sugar level before he left hospital but it has now dropped. He had a urine infection and doctors thought it was caused by medication.

    Hi Helen

We have also been to the Amalfi Coast and thought it was beautiful. We didn't visit Naples but did Pompei .Put on weight with the lovely pasta and wine. Hopefully we can go back some day.

We are both now adjusting better and I am slowing down. I will have to find another hobby and encourage Ian to do something too. We can't keep going out for coffee every day. Ian likes to play games on his tablet but I prefer going out. I am going go back to Rock Choir which is fun and I also do pilates but I need to do something else perhaps arty.

Ian is walking more with the zimmer. We have had a trip to the shops for shoes and Ian got a badly needed haircut today. He is getting stronger and gaining more confidence. Kappa light chains are rising slowly, now324 but no treatment needed yet.

    Take care.

You have to stay positive and take one day at a time. Your husband will get mentally and physically fit. It was very devastating for all of us when first diagnosed. I was obsessed with end of life on this site but you will find good information and friends.

My husband had a compressed spine and needed a spinal operation. Contracted sepsis and a huge bed sore. Just home from hospital after one year. Had Cdt but had to stop at cycle 4 to let bed sore heal. Light chains slowly rising but has had no treatment since April. Ian was very weak but his muscles are growing and now walking with a zimmer. We can only hope he will get a good remission.

    My faith gives me comfort.

Thanks Tom. Have to learn to have patience and not expect too much too soon.

    Hi Eva

Still trying to adjust. I will have to concentrate more on taking Ian out in the morning and leave the housework until later. It isn't easy but we will get there. Ian has to speak to me more civilly and we both have to have patience . It is'is oneeasy though.

How are you? Has your toe mended and did they change your treatment?

    Keep in touch.

    Hi Helen

I am still trying to adjust to the changes. At the moment it is one day good and next day bad. I want Ian to be able to get back his strength and lead a normal life but if I do everything for him that won't happen . He is quite happy to sit and watch tv all day while I run myself ragged.

I am starting small and encouraging him to make a cup of tea and walk about a bit. He was accessed by the physio at our local hospital on Friday and we were encouraged by what he can and will be able to do but he will need to put in some hard work.

Hope you had a nice holiday and get your free flight.
