  • Hi Tom

Ian had as good a birthday as possible. I baked him a cake and bought him the series of the wire. He got nice face creams and lots of cards, including one from his work. His nickname was soapy as in oor wullie as he had curly hair and they designed a card with his name and a monkey on the front. He did laugh.

    Thanks for your…[Read more]

  • Hi Eva

Ian's birthday went as well as can be expected. I baked him a cake and bought him the series of the wire on dvd. He also got nice face creams and lots of cards.

We had good news that his light chains are now down to 147 and paraprotiens are now 5 but his myeloma his mostly light chains.

He used to like playing games but has lost…[Read more]

  • It's Ian's birthday tomorrow and we found out today that he has MRSA in his bed wound. He is not on antibiotics as it is confined to this area and he has not temperature. I am afraid he will contact sepsis but nurse assures me he will be well looked after and ops taken twice a day. They have also taken his blood to test for infection and if it…[Read more]

    Hi Dai

Hope you have managed to escape the lurgy. I have 2 small grandchildren and I stay away when they have the sniffles as I seem to pick up everything from them, but I love them to bits.

    Thanks Helen

Ian is cranky when he is on the steroids and I am exhausted when I visit twice a day so I'm afraid I haven't got much patience. Trying to get Ian to use his tablet and take his mind of the things that go wrong in hospital. Trying to motivate him more.

Hope we get good news about his light chains next week.

  • Ian has started his 3rd cycle on CTD. His steroids have been halved to 20mg. Waiting to hear if this is ok.

His bloods were fine but still waiting for resluts of light chains as they are carried out in Glasgow and can take up to 2 weeks.

Still stuck with bed sore but it is getting better.

Your story has given us hope. My husband is still in rehabilitation after 4 months in hospital for spinal operations as he has partial paralysis. He is has just finished cycle 2 on CTD and we get his results tomorrow.

Fingers crossed the treatment is working and we can get him home soon.

  • Hi Sue

Sorry isn't enough but you will also feel releived that Michael isn't suffering any more. I know you will miss him terribly but also have happy memories of your time together.

I do wish they would find a cure for this disease.

For now take comfort in your family and friends and when you are ready live life to the full.

    Hi Helen

It is a big shock to discover that you have myeloma but as you say Ian can make progress. I try to get him to think of the positive things that have happened but it must be hard for him to lie in bed every day. He is on day 12 today a dex day so he will be stronger to do more physio.

I find I need a release and try to get some of…[Read more]

    Hi Eve

Thanks for your advice. I have started massaging his pressure points but as he is not in a room on his own I can only do some of them but Ian does like it. Doctor has decided that he can get out of bed and sit on a special chair for one hour per day.

Not very impressed with NHS as Ian is always worried about his care and the…[Read more]

Thanks for your reply. We are trying to stay positive as the bed sore has to heal before Ian can move forward. We just take a day at a time.

My daughter is having a civil wedding in July in London and hopefully Ian will be well enogh to attend. That is his next goal.

    Hi Eve

Ian got the bed sore when he was in Edinburgh waiting for his spinal wound to heal. The nursed there turned hime every 2 hours but when he was transferred back to FVH the nurses didn't turn him as they said the air bed was enough. This is what has set Ian back and he is now getting turned every 2 hours. I

  • Ian has been advised by the doctor in rehab that he will not be out of bed until the bed sore he has on his bottom has healed. This could take months and he will now be so depressed and we thought he was moving forward. They will work on his uper body and legs when he is in bed.

Why is life so unkind, it seems we get one step forward and 2…[Read more]

    Hi Eva

Pleased that your treatment is working. The waiting time you had was horrid and I hope you continue to keep well.

Ian is now in rehab in Falkirk. He was sent last Friday but on Sunday had a temperature of 38 so the gp thought he should go bakc to FVH. We had to wait 4 hours on an ambulance and then another 2hours for a doctor to see…[Read more]

  • Hi Sue

I can't imagine what you are feeling and hope that all our prayers will help you and Michael. Life is so unkind, my husband Ian was diagnosed in October and has lost the use of his legs as he had a compressed spine. I didn't sleep and cried for 3 weeks. Sometimes I think he will walk again and have at least 10 years but other times I…[Read more]
