    Hello Ian,
My understanding is that the Chemo will kill any sleeping Myeloma cells, thereby delaying its return further.

I’m going into hospital on Wednesday to start the Chemo/transplant. I confess that I also had a hard time getting my head around it after receiving a cancer free result. I have a high risk version of the cancer and so I am due to have a 2nd SCT following the first one to try to delay the return even further.
I’m a 55 year old woman living in Luxembourg. I think the treatment is more or less the same as in the U.K.

    Dear Nick,
I was diagnosed at the beginning of the year. I’m a 55 year old woman.
I started DVDT. I developed a rash on my belly and my oncologist put it down to the revlamid so we stopped that drug and continued with DVD. I have to say that I was on a real cocktail of other drugs at same time as I had severe vertebrae pain on diagnosis. The oncologist mentioned the reaction could have also been due to the cocktail. Anyway, I came off of the pain killers etc as soon as possible and finished 4 cycles of DVD. I’m now going for a SCT next week and as I have a high risk version of myeloma with have a 2nd SCT shortly after. I didn’t have any problems with the DVD.

    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes

    Hello,
The same thing happened to me. I was asked to come back one month later and after two further collections I had plenty. I should mention that I am in Luxembourg so perhaps the procedure is slightly different. I would suggest asking your hospital/consultant.

I will start my SCT next week and as I have a high risk version of myeloma will have a second SCT shortly after.

I’m sure it will work out for your husband. Chin up and all that.
