I think we are lucky, mike has his treatment at home the nurse comes twice a week for two weeks and on the third week we go for a review and more bloods at the hospital he had his first infusion of zometa, that was a two hour wait for 15min treatment, but he got fed and there was free coffee. The consultant passed by while we where waiting and his PP level is in the twenty s he could remember the exact number but it is getting lower. MIke has been put on now 20mg of the Rex this has been reduced which was another good thing.

Yes, Eve. Mike has had X-rays several times before also bone marrow testing.

David, I hope your treatment goes well today. Mike is getting injections into his stomach and they will carry out the treatment at home, it is something new they have started at our hospital which is the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

I have calmed down now and I'm writing a list of question for Thursday.

    Thanks for the support

Mike has not had a relapse he never has had treatment before. His paraprotien levels have been high for a long time the highest being 70 but they had been sitting around 45, they never gave him treatment because he was having no other symptons but now he gets bone pain and infections; they did xrays and have now decided treatment is necessary. Mike had a stroke in 2002 and this is why they held off treatment as long as possible. I need to find out how bad his bones as this is what has triggered the treatment plan. I cant sleep and im eating very little, I just hope the treatment works and that delaying things has not caused problems

Interesting thread, My husbands paraprotien is around 50 on average has been as high as 69 but he has no treatment. They say because it is not causing damage to the bones or kidneys they are holding off. I find this hard to get my head around, why wait when you can see such differences in the levels after treament, why wait until the damamge it there before treatment. He tells me not to worry, the doctor but I still do.

Firstly sorry for not putting my name, it is Jean. I had a lot of trouble doing my first post on the new site.

Mike's Paraprotein level tonight was 48 and everything else was fine. He is getting a lot of colds, chest infections and cold sores. He is going back in two months. He has no bone pain apart from arthritis in him lower back, that is what they picked up on his most recent x rays.

so I suppose, we just wait till the next appointment in the new year

    thanks for the responses

    Jean
