    Hello Sarah,

I am 71 next week and had my SCT on the 25th June. I was told to expect to be in hospital for 3/4 weeks and was out in 2 weeks and 1 day. As Rebecca has mentioned it is difficult to prevent your mind getting the better of you and feeling low. I was fortunate apart from the incessant jog to the loo and a slight infection cleared up by anti-biotics I had little else. The change from being rock bottom to the blood results improving along with my mental state was remarkable and changed within 3 days or so. Apart from easily getting tired I feel well. Since leaving hospital my only worry is my Neutraphil readings have dropped from 1.96 to 1.26 and then 0.98. I’m off tomorrow for my next blood tests hoping these readings are on the up again.

I hope your mum copes well with it all. Best wishes for the future.

    Hi Julie,

6 years ago I was having blood tests prior to having a knee replacement when it was discovered I had MGUS. I’ve been told I may have had it for years before without knowing. I was monitored every 6 weeks, then 8 weeks and then 3 months until last July I received the news that it had turned into Myeloma. Fortunately I did not have any pain but the steroids caused a few problems. Hopefully I am on my final cycle and see my consultant this coming Thursday before possibly going on to SCT.

Best wishes to both you and your mother

    Hi Carol,

Thanks for the info. It appears there is a little time between the end of CTD and start of SCT. I already have a house cleaner to cut down on my workload.

Both my parents were Londoners and moved to Lancashire before I was born, which is where I live. The hospital with the SCT facility is based in Blackpool.

You are now day+12 and I hope you continue to progress well.

    Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the info.

I will speak to the Macmillan nurse as you suggested. My daughter has emigrated to Australia and I am keen to get down under to see her. The time away from home will be a good guide to how my wife can cope as it is doubtful she could make the trip to Perth.

    Hi Carol, Tony etc.

How long from finishing your initial cycles to starting the STC. My wife is disabled and unable to do little else other than make an odd snack and I need to plan ahead to enable her to cope whilst I undergo STC. The recovery time afterwards also seems to vary and I am wondering how long it will be before I am able to be chief cook and washer up again. I am 70 years young and reasonably fit.

Thanks for your reply Carol. I am leaning towards STC myself and also have family in Perth I wish to visit.

Hope your treatment progresses well .

Sorry for the typos. I shall rewrite tomorrow to make it clearer.
