I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Being told you have myeloma is a huge emotional shock, and the fear you’re feeling is normal. Anyone in your position would feel overwhelmed. There is hope, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

Myeloma today is treated very differently than years ago. There are multiple treatment options, and many people live with it for years, managing it like a long-term condition. Your mind is trying to jump to the worst possibility because everything is new and frightening. That doesn’t mean that worst outcome is what will happen.

Right now, you don’t have to absorb every leaflet or every detail. You don’t have to “cope” perfectly either. Just take one small step at a time.

    What can help:

Talk openly with your medical team. They understand how frightening this is.

Ask for a clinical nurse specialist or counselor. Emotional support is part of treatment.

You don’t have to stay brave. Crying and confusion are allowed.

If you want support from people who really understand, Myeloma UK has a free support line and there are many patients who live stable, full lives while on treatment and will talk with you honestly and kindly.

You are not alone, and this isn’t the end of your story. It’s the beginning of learning a new path, and you will find your emotional footing again. One day soon the fear will not feel this strong.

    For now, just breathe.
You don’t have to solve everything today.
