What can i say, my poor Mum is in hospital with no further treatment offered except some radiotherapy on her hip and some dex a couple of times a week, she is so sad we don’t know what to do to help her through this awful bit, her pain is better managed but her mobility is poor due to the poorly hip, a nursing home has been mentioned now, she is so aware of what is happening and on top of it all i have a cold and cannot visit at the moment so its down to my sister and my dad to take the carer stress, the velcade has been stopped because she is frail and we have had two hospital admissions due to infections but we never found out where they were,as a family we are determined to have some sort of Christmas for the children aged 2 and 6 and myeloma will not have the last say i am determined about that one but every day there is something thrown up,hard times ahead San xx

    • Hi Sandra

I know things seem bleak at the moment, two unknown infections will batter the immune system, but being off treatment will give your mums body time to recover,Slim was in the same position, having GCFS. Injections helped his white cells to recover,it’s been a long couple of months for us,but his immune system is recovering except for platelets, and we have the worry of how the Myeloma is developing ,as he has been off Chemo!!!!!

On a personal level I would say do not give up ,get your mum home, keep her free from infection,????

We do not look to far ahead,Slim has his bloods done every week,if he needs platelets or bloods we go in,he will have a BMB end of this month with results in new year,he has slowly improved because he is off chemo, and we are just enjoying today. Eve

      • Hi Eve, thank you for your reply, Mum had blood transfusion today, she is not being offered any other treatment just dexy twice a week and Dad is 82 and can’t cope with having her home, i have offered to move in for a while to help and will wait to see what they would like as funding has been agreed from the hospital for nursing care, she is on the oncology ward at the moment and is getting super care but they have told us that she has the aggressive form of myeloma and she is so frail now, gosh its hard to see this happening to a loved one and she has said that she has had enough now and i can’t blame her she has suffered a lot recently, her pain is less but continues and bone damage is apparent which is causing more pain. Yes Eve enjoy today and i so hope that all goes well with Slim, you said once that myeloma should not have the last say and i agree it won’t in our house! i get so angry that all the lovely people on here including my Mum have to go through such a difficult illness, love to you both San xx
