    Hi Min
The problem is these people will be based overseas and are virtually untraceable. They may not even be selling anything, just luring people onto a website loaded with viruses or trying to get details for identity theft.

The individuals doing this won't even be aware of who we are. They will have some system that scans the web for…[Read more]

    Hi Michele
Unfortunately the only way we could make this more secure is to manually approve every single person who wants to join the forum. Even then we would have no way of knowing if someone was going to post spam until they actually did it. These people set up email accounts, use them for a few days to spam and then just set up a new one.…[Read more]

  • Hi Folks
We had a lot more spam messages on the forum over the weekend. Thanks to everyone who pointed these out to me, they have all been zapped. Please keep your eyes peeled for any more, I have no doubt they will return. Email me at the usual address (webteam@myeloma.org.uk) if you spot any.

    Cheers
    Stuart

  • Hi Folks
Thanks to you all for being on the ball, as per usual. I've deleted the spam messages and the user account responsible. Sadly there is no way to stop these people, if you can call them that. We have to allow people to register and post freely or the forum would be useless. The best we can do is keep our collective eyes peeled and…[Read more]

    Hi Jean
I have sent you a private message with my personal email address in it. Can you copy the entire contents of one of the bounce backs and send it to me please?

    Thanks

    Hi Dai
I've tried a few things to replicate the problem and it may be that you were not signed in. For some reason the "Start discussion" button is showing up even when someone is not signed in (I will raise this with the website developers). Did you get the annoying CAPTCHA letters and numbers before you posted?

    Hi Folks
Ellen has noticed a few items of junk sneaking onto the forum which I have now bashed on the head. We've been pretty lucky so far, as we've only had a couple of bits of spam over the last year or so. If you do spot anything dodgy being posted please send me a message at webteam@myeloma.org.uk and I'll sort it…[Read more]

  • Hi Folks
It looks like the over sized picture problem has been fixed. I've tested in IE and Chrome browsers and all seems to be well again. If anyone is still experiencing the problem please let me know by posting here or sending me an email at webteam@myeloma.org.uk.

    Regards
    Stuart.

  • Nice work Dai! I will pass this information on to our dev guys. I'm sure it will prove useful.

    Thanks
    Stuart.

  • Hi
It does seem to only be affecting newly uploaded images as far as I can tell. Our developers are looking into the problem and will hopefully have it sorted shortly.

In the mean time a little trick to see the text underneath a large image is to select all the text (hold down the ctrl key and press A, or select with the mouse).

    I will…[Read more]

  • Hi Folks
We seem to be having a problem with some profile pictures being twice as large as they should be and overlapping the text. This issue seems to be only affecting Internet Explorer, so those of you using Safari or Chrome should still be ok. I've notified our development team so hopefully they will have a fix out shortly.

    Apologies…[Read more]

    Hello Teresa
My name is Stuart and I managed the website here at Myeloma UK. Something very strange happened to your post and all the other people's responses now appear as though they are coming from my account. I am trying to fix this at the moment. Please accept my apologies.

    Regard

  • Hello Terry
I have to apologise to yourself and the other people who posted replies to you post. I was trying to merge your two posts together so you would get all your replies in once place and I have accidentally deleted your original post. I'm searching for a way to retrieve the two lost replies right now. Again please accept my…[Read more]

    Hi David
I can certainly do this if it's required. If you, or anyone else, spots anything that is out of place please email webteam@myeloma.org.uk with the details and I'll look into it. I have done this in the past when someone has accidentally posted in the wrong place or an unrelated subject has become buried at the bottom of a…[Read more]

  • webteam replied to the topic Inappropriate language in the forum Off topic 13 years ago

    Hi Folks
I have turned off the inappropriate language filter. Ironically we have discovered some unacceptable words in our banned words list. The list came pre-defined with the software we use to drive our website and on closer inspection contains words which should not be blocked.

We will proceed from now on as Dai suggests, if anyone…[Read more]
