Sorry John for some reason it will not let me reply to your posting so I started this thread to answer you:
I am 68 and right at the very beginning of my treatment the consultants were interested in my ?level of fitness? very inquisitive about my military service and whether I did any exercise etc… I did not know it at the time but they were accessing whether they would allow me to go the SCT route.
I consider myself very fit for my age, I have always liked physical training, a Cross Country runner amongst other things in my youth. Up to two days prior to my SCT I was speed walking 3 miles every morning. Weight seems very important to them and if you are overweight by a large margin it counts heavily against you I think. I am short 5?7 ½ ?and bald, but, as I always say, ?I cannot do anything about the height, I cannot do anything about being bald, but I am bu***red if I am going to be Short, Fat and Bald!? he he.
However, the good news is, I do not think you have to be a fitness freak like me. But you do have to be off reasonable weight; able to walk up stairs without getting out of breath and generally active if you are in the age group 65 to 70. Being a non smoker and moderate drinker earns bonus points. My consultant said that 70 is the cut off point for SCT regardless of fitness.
I hope this helps
Kindest regards
David
